Seven bands to celebrate 51 years of the Grateful Dead at the Jupiter waterfront restaurant and live music venue

Jupiter, FL – July 12, 2016 – Grateful Dead founder, lead singer and guitaristJerry Garcia may have gone on to the great gig in the sky in 1995, but his music and memory live on in the hearts of Deadheads throughout the world. The life of the lord of psychedelia will be celebrated at Guanabanas Island Restaurant (960 N Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) on Sunday, July 31, 2016beginning at 1 p.m. during a special event presented by Roots Music, NewBelgium Brewing and Sailor Jerry, featuring Uproot Hootenany, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Reflections, Guavatron, Unlimited Devotion, The Southern Belles and the Funkin’ Grateful. There is no cover and the show is all-ages.

“Jerry’s birthday has always been a great day to celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead, as Jerry’s playing had such a huge influence on the musical community,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “We thought it would be a great day of music to bring together some incredible national acts to celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and all the great bands of that era. We appreciate the support of the local music community and our sponsors New Belgium and Sailor Jerry.”

Along with the birthday celebration, Guanabanas will also be celebrating New Belgium’s 25th Anniversary with a tap takeover featuring all of New Belgium’s iconic beers, including the seven Phat Tire and friends “Coolabeeration” beers. There will be tasting tents and beer specials on Guanabanas’ premier property. Cahur adds: “Blending the music of the Dead and great beer and rum, who could ask for more?”

Deerfield Beach’s Uproot Hootenany is a roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass and jam quartet who play the East Coast of Florida extensively. The band is a favorite at music festivals in and around the state, and will embark on a tour of Ireland later this summer. They have released three collections of music, including 2014’s Way Out. Learn more at www.UprootHootenany.com.

“The Greatest Story Ever Told” was the title track off of Dead member Bob Weir’s first solo album called Ace. What a better name for an offshoot group featuring some of the great artists of our local area put together only for this show? It will be hard to say who will sit in on this 60-minute set, but the elements of surprise will keep it very interesting.

Reflections is a Jerry Garcia tribute band whose focus is on the man’s music outside of the Grateful Dead. Featuring former members of the group Crazy Fingers, they cover the period of Garcia’s solo work from 1972 until the artist’s death in 1995. More details: www.facebook.com/ReflectionsOfJGB.

A fusion quintet from West Palm Beach, Guavatron blends “jam-tronica”, lounge, funk, jazz, reggae and rock into an infectious, original sound that travels well throughout the county. They list the Grateful Dead as their primary influence and keep a page on Bandcamp: guavatron.bandcamp.com.

Based in Delray Beach, Unlimited Devotion is not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band, but rather one that doesn’t emulate the band’s song book as much as interpret it. They express themselves through improvisation in the musical vein of jazz and funk. Their repertoire also includes staples by Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Cream, Jefferson Airplane and others. More info:www.facebook.com/UDMusic.

The Richmond, VA-based Southern Belles play a high-octane mix of Southern psychedelic rock and roll, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals each year. Road-tested, they have promoted their latest release, Close to Sunrise(2015) extensively throughout the U.S. Additional details available at:www.thesouthernbellesmusic.com.

Headliners the Funkin’ Grateful is a bit of a super group featuring members of The Heavy Pets, Unlimited Devotion, Uproot Hootenany and Fusik. Boca Raton-based Funkin’ Grateful occasionally unites to play Jerry, Grateful Dead and Phil Lesh tribute shows. Follow the band on www.facebook.com/FunkinGrateful.

Jessi Campo Releases La Lupe Remake “Que Te Pedi”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recording Artist Jessi Campo Releases La Lupe Remake “Que Te Pedi

Digital-only track first single from new tribute album to be issued July 19
Miami, FL – July 12, 2016Miami-based songwriter / chanteuse Jessi Campo released her latest single today. “Que Te Pedi” was originally a hit in the 1960s for the fiery Cuban performer La Lupe, who was known as the Queen of Latin Soul. Produced by Jose D. Velazquez, the remake is somewhat of a legacy piece for Campo, who self-identifies with La Lupe’s passionate delivery and fiercely independent attitude, and whose fatherGiovanni Rodriguez worked alongside Tito Puente, famed Puerto Rican band leader and La Lupe producer. The single is streaming on Spotify, available for purchase on Google Play, and will be accompanied by a lyric video.

“The recent Celia series on Telemundo included the appearance of the legend’s contemporary La Lupe, which sparked my interest in the artist’s original catalog,” says Campo. “I realized her passionate songs truly spoke to my life experiences and that her emotive style was a perfect fit for mine. It also reflected my love for the mid-to late 60s New York Latin music scene, as well as my Cuban roots.”

Campo, encouraged by festival producer Tony Cruz Sr. to explore the bolerostyle, has recorded what is perhaps the first acoustic piano / vocal version of the classic “Que Te Pedi”, featuring Miami-based jazz pianist, educator and author Mike Orta (Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Nestor Torres) on the ivories. Further adding to the legacy aspect of the single, Tito Puente, Jr. serves as co-producer on the track.

Campo was also drawn to the trail blazed by La Lupe for women, one of fiercely strong independence. The latter originally performed in clubs around Cuba, eventually becoming the owner of one before being forced to give it all up sue to the political change over. La Lupe emigrated to New York in 1962, where she teamed up with fellow Cuban exile Mongo Santamaria, and Puente.

Her upcoming full-length La Pasion de La Lupe will be released July 19, 2016, featuring additional cuts by La Lupe, including another well-known staple “La Tirana”. It will also feature “Vivio La Vida”, a moving tribute to Campo’s father co-written and produced by Michael NOMAD Ripoll (guitarist and musical director for Babyface).

Notable South American reggae band plays Jupiter waterfront restaurant, bar and music venue during Latin music night

Jupiter, FL – June 14, 2016 – Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar’sNoche Latina concert series will be hosting the renown Chilean reggae roots band Gondwana on Friday, June 24, 2016, beginning at 9 p.m. Located at 960 North Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477, Guanabanas is presenting Latin music concerts of differing flavors this summer, featuring some of South Florida’s finest Latin bands, in addition to this international act.

“Our summer concert series is off to a great start, having already featured a CD release party by Jupiter’s Moska Project, and Miami-based Lanzallamas,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “As a fan of reggae and roots music, I am extremely excited about Gondwana’s debut concert here. It promises to be another fantastic evening of live Latin music.” Cahur launched the monthly Latin music night just after Hispanic Heritage month 2015, in part to satiate demands due to South Florida’s diversity and interest in all things Latin America.

Founded in 1987 during the turbulent and violently oppressive times of Augosto Pinochet’s dictatorial rule, Gondwana’s chart-topping “reggae & roll” sound is inspired equally by Bob Marley and The Police. Currently on their “Babylon by Van” tour of the United States, the performance at Guanabanas on June 24 will also be hosted by Lance-O from Kulcha Shok Muzik. Learn more about them at www.Gondwana.cl.

There will also be performances by the award-winning Miami-based Latin funk band Electric Piquete on July 3 (4 p.m.), the Spam Allstars (July 23), a Latin Grammy-nominated Latin / Afro-Cuban funk outfit led by musician, producer and audiophile Andrew Yeomanson, AKA DJ Le Spam, and the NagChampayons, who self-describe as “Afrogalactic / tropidelic” and are known for improvisational and multi-ethnic musical brilliance in Miami (August  19).

Guanabanas is an open air restaurant and bar with woven tiki huts and banyan trees towering overhead and hand-chiseled coquina stone pathways underfoot. The team maintains a laid-back, island atmosphere where everyone is welcome. All performances, unless otherwise noted, begin at 9 p.m. and are free and open to the public. 21 and over are welcome Fridays and Saturdays; Sunday performances are all-ages.

“Reaction to our Latin music night continues to get stronger each time we host it,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “We’re excited about our current lineup, which promises something for every type of Latin music fan: funk, reggae, roots, fusion.”  Cahur’s decision to launch a Latin music night was based in part by the diversity of South Florida and the emergence of Latin American culture in the area.

Moska Project is a six-piece Latin roots rock band based in Jupiter that plays a fusion of reggae and Afro-Cuban music. They have been writing and performing original material since 2002, touring the East Cost of the U.S. and sharing the stage with artists such as 311, G-Love, Yellowman, just to name a few. Formed in 1987 during a time of extreme political oppression, Chile’s Gondwana has become one of South America’s most well-known bands. Learn more about them at www.Gondwana.cl.

Founded in 2007, Electric Piquete is an award-winning Miami-based Latin funk band that has been featured on CNN and played countless South Florida venues and music festivals. Twice named “Best Latin Band” by the Miami New Times (2009 and 2015), the band is currently working on a new soul / funk single featuring vocalist Maco Monthervil, to be released this summer. Learn more at www.ElectricPiquete.com.

The Spam Allstars, long a favorite of Guanabanas’ regular music-loving crowd, in large part define current day “Miami sound”, combining elements of electronic music with funk and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The Latin Grammy-nominated outfit is led by musician, producer and audiophile Andrew Yeomanson, AKA DJ Le Spam. They maintain a weekly residency in Little Havana which has run for more than a decade and actively tour Florida and the U.S.  More details: www.SpamAllstars.com.

Self-described as “Afrogalactic / tropidelic”, the Nag Champayons have long set the standard for improvisational and multi-ethnic musical brilliance in Miami. The band released a tidal wave of new music in 2015 with Rising Sounds of a Sinking City, an eight-movement, 21-minute theme weaving together sonic textures from Africa to Colombia, then Stateside via Cuba, all converging into a frenzied psychedelic finale. Visit www.NagChampayons.com for more information.

Guanabanas is an open air restaurant and bar with woven tiki huts and banyan trees towering overhead and hand-chiseled coquina stone pathways underfoot.
