Cortadito Unveils First Single “A Yemayá” from Upcoming Album Release Guajiro Triangle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Miami’s award-winning Cuban folk group releases a new song and video featuring Nestor Torres on February 7

Miami, FL – January 15, 2025 – Renowned Cuban folk ensemble Cortadito will release “A Yemayá”, the first single from their upcoming album Guajiro Triangle, on February 7. Written by co-founder Julio Cesar Rodriguez, this vibrant homage to Yemayá – the Afro-Cuban goddess of the sea – features Latin GRAMMY-winning flautist Nestor Torres and showcases the band’s signature Cuban Son sound.

This irresistibly danceable first single opens with a duet between Tony Perigo‘s trumpet and Torres’ flute before swaying into a rich groove by percussionist Pacha Portundo and Alberto Pantaleon‘s upright bass. Co-founder Jose Elias’ tres and tumbao provide the perfect counterpoint to Rodriguez’s velvety vocals, delivering pure rhythmic magic.

The accompanying video, directed by Adrian Gonzalez (Oigovision) and edited by Elias, brings the song to life in Coconut Grove, featuring dancer Marisol Blanco in traditional Yemayá attire. The song was recorded by Guillermo Rodriguez Bravo and Elias and mixed by Carlos El LocoBedoya (Beyoncé, Enrique Iglesias).

“I wrote the song during a moment of reflection by the ocean,” says Rodriguez. “I asked Yemayá for guidance, releasing my doubts and fears to the water. Her protection inspired the message: trust her, and she will provide.” The single is the first from the group’s debut album due to be released in May 2025 on the Afro Roots Recording label.

Miami’s Electric Piquete release their first-ever full-length “Azabache”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Eight Latin funk originals and one cover now streaming everywhere – CD features a bonus track

Miami, FL – September 20, 2024 – Award-winning Miami-based Latin funk “fusionistas” Electric Piquete have finally delivered on a promise made some time ago. The band’s new recording Azabache, a full-length collection of new and mostly instrumental music, is now streaming on all platforms and available on CD through Bandcamp.

The first single off Azabache is titled “Chunk“, a mid-tempo funk number mixed by Grammy-winning producer and engineer Carlos El Loco” Bedoya (BeyoncéMick JaggerEnrique Iglesias). The accompanying video is directed and edited by Christopher Tijerino from CR38TE MEDIA, and serves as a re-introduction to the group, capturing them in both rehearsal and performance settings. The video can be viewed on the band’s YouTube page.

“The new album is meant to be a musical azabache, a salve for what ills our world, a statement of joy and groove put forth in the universal language of music,” says Michael Mut, band co-founder, bassist, and album executive producer. “We hope to provide listeners with a temporary escape from the mortal realm, and an invitation to the spiritual.”

The word Azabache means black amber or jet and finds its origins in the Andalusian region of Spain. Its value and use as jewelry trace back to ancient Rome, and its modern use to Cuban culture, where it is meant to ward off negative energies. Azabaches are also said to protect wearers from fear, indecisiveness, and evil.

Album standouts include the up-tempo Latin groove of “Guayabera” (also mixed by Bedoya), “Muevete Con Ganas“, a collaboration featuring the vocal and lyrical contributions of Miami-based singer / songwriter MannySwagg. The track has been around as a fully realized instrumental song since 2009, and the group decided to join forces with the frontman after a particularly energetic stage performance in Miami Beach in the summer of 2023.

Timeless Faith” puts congero Raymond Ayala and his smooth Puerto Rican / Spanish rap flow front and center. “S.A.C.A.” is another musical idea that has been around for some time, and this effort finally gave the band a chance to commit it to tape.

Viva Tirado“, the Gerald Wilson / Fania Allstars standard, has long been a part of the band’s live repertoire and helped initially seed the group. It appeared on a mixtape Rosado created for Mut in the early 1990s.

The CD version of the release contains a bonus track, a cover of the Badfinger song “Matted Spam“, which was first issued in 2023 on the Y&T Music compilation Shine On: a Tribute to Pete Ham.

Independently released, the record was engineered and co-mixed by long-time collaborator Ferny Coipel. Mut along with band co-founder Ed Rosado and guitarist Chris Correoso co-produced the album.

Formed in the summer of 2007, Electric Piquete is a two-time Miami New Times “Best Latin Band” award-winning Latin funk outfit. Their influences are as diverse as the Miami region that birthed them, ranging from rock to jazz spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive, and R&B.

High-resolution photos of the band and the album cover are available here.

Megan Morrison Released Appetite for Freedom July 3

New collection of modern hard rock songs an ode to recovery and the spirit of hopefulness

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 20, 2022 – Miami Beach, FL – Just ahead of Independence Day 2022, Miami-based American singer, songwriter, and professional fire dancer Megan Morrison is back with a searing new collection of songs appropriately called Appetite for Freedom. Now sober and with a clear and hyper-focused mind, Megan has redirected a lot of her emotions and life experiences into her songwriting. With this new set of songs, she hopes to raise awareness about mental health and addiction by sharing her story and delivering an encouraging message through her music.

Appetite for Freedom tells a personal story of redemption and rebirth. I started writing these songs after ending a long battle with addiction, depression, and anxiety,” says Morrison. “I decided I wanted to tell a story of how my addiction felt and the joy I received once I was able to break free. I want listeners to be able to relate and hopefully feel inspired by my story.”

Raised in Maine and Massachusetts, Morrison is classically trained and influenced by classic rock, gospel and soul. She studied at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and Hunter College in NYC, and pursued a career in musical theater on Broadway. These days her siren-like pipes are a transcendent voice for the recovery community. If Lana Del Rey, Matt Bellamy (Muse) and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) had a love child, the product would be Megan’s voice. Her style of singing ranges from sultry sweet to in-your-face battle cries and the songs she writes have a purpose.

From the jarring, operatic, orchestral opening salvo “Introitus – a New Hope” through the uplifting closer “Fill Me Up”, where a heavy synth wash gives way to a pulsating opening and even quotes President John F. Kennedy’s American University June 1963 speech, this album, in a word, rocks. In between, one finds the inspirational, uplifting heaviness of the title track and the electronic drive of “9 Lives”.

Another highlight is “Devil Said Roam”: a thunderbolt crack to open yields to a momentary spaghetti-Western, Ennio Morricone vibe, then gives to a straight four on the floor mid-tempo rocker, complete with the radio-ready refrain of “You think I’m in love, but I’m not in love.” The set possesses a warm, rich production touch, but is not overly produced, and stands as a solid representation of contemporary rock.

Co-producer, co-writer, and guitarist Tony Alarcon shares an equally riveting back-story. Born and raised in Miami Beach, he is also a licensed and practicing psychotherapist who was once co-owner of the venerable Miami Beach hotspot Jazid. From the time he picked up the guitar at age 12 to present day, the multi-talented musician has performed and recorded with Young Turk (Geffen), Jimi Dred, Inna Sense, David Seigel (T.I., Soulja Boy), Mod Sun, Ky-mani Marley, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Vince Neil (Mötley Crüe), and A.B. Quintanilla (Kumbia Kings). He also founded the venerable alt rock vets Lo-Fi.

Morrison’s fire dancing skills led her to guest appearances in music videos by Pitbull, Elvis Crespo, Fuego, and onstage with Jessie J. She dedicates this new album to her parents, husband, and everyone on Earth, “because we all struggle with something and we all have the power to change, despite the adversity we may face.” The album is available to stream and download at meganmorrison.fanlink.to/AppetiteforFreedom. Click here for photos and the album cover in high resolution.

Megan will celebrated the official release of Appetite for Freedom with a free listening party at Mama Tried (207 NE 1st Street, Miami, FL 33132) on Sunday, July 3, 2022.

Alexa Lash Releases “Already Not the Same” January 7, Celebrates at Bar Nancy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artist transforms emotion into ear candy for the pandemic era in new release out Friday

Miami, FL – January 4, 2022Miami-born singer-songwriter Alexa Lash has written and recorded another collection of songs that serves as a four-song experience that takes listeners on a journey through joy, nostalgia, sadness, and empowerment. Already Not the Same hits all streaming platforms on Friday, January 7, 2022. Lash will be celebrating the release that night with a special party at Bar Nancy in Little Havana (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL 33135) beginning at 9 p.m.

Lash has found comfort in emotion with her new release, which is a follow up to her debut EP Sage and Wine. “It’s hard to believe how much has changed in just a year,” she says. “I have so much music I want to share with the world, and this is just the beginning. I hope everyone hears just how much love I put into the music.”

The first single is called “Baked Apples”, and it delves into nostalgia and the power of love and sensory memory, and is a reminder that when someone is gone, their memory is always with you throughout the rest of your life. It is out now – click here to listen.

“Stay Over” is a gooey pop delve into romance, and serves as a romp into expressing our tendency towards the need for companionship. It’s about telling someone you like them, openly and confidently. And not being afraid to be “that person” who makes the first move.

“Facing Reality” is an emotional trek through unrequited love. It is about expectation, hope, and the reality that must be faced when feelings aren’t reciprocated. This harsh truth is the crux and inspiration for the emotion that drives not just the lyrics, but how Lash sings it on the EP and in person.

“History” is a fun, flavorful track inspired by confidence and self-assuredness. It’s playful, embeds elements of spoken word/rap, trumpet provided by Julian Cifuentes, and touches of Spanish guitar by Ferny Coipel, who produced and engineered the set at the Shack North in Hialeah, FL.

Overall, Lash’s music is a self-reflective kind of folksy, a tone likened to bluesy, her hooks sticky and catchy, with a touch of soul, and drizzled with a smidgen of pop. It is all at once memorable, insightful and intimate, beautifully-crafted, and entirely original.

Marcel Salas, who is the lead guitarist in Lash’s live band Alexa & The Old Fashioneds, opens the evening with a solo set Friday; he plays the drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, and piano on the recordings. The EP was mastered by Zach Ziskin. The cover art for the lead single is equally as personal and was designed by Lash’s former bandmate and Miami-based artist, Johann C. Muñoz.

Alexa has a long-running residency at Bar Nancy – catch her there every other first Friday and every third Wednesday. High resolution photos and interviews available upon request.

Links to the single and additional content are available at linktr.ee/alexalashmusic.

Miami’s RumSanders releases debut single “Revolutionary”

Independent hip-hop artist puts drops new track from his EternalFellas imprint ahead of 1983 full-length

Miami, FL – June 29, 2021 – RumSanders is 2021’s breakthrough hip hop artist coming straight out of Richmond Heights, Florida. The rapper’s inaugural single is a dynamic lyrical commentary driven by a bass and piano groove influenced by R&B, soul, reggae and dancehall. It comes in advance of his full-length debut called 1983, which are both being carried by his label called EternalFellas. Click here to preview, stream and download it now.

About “Revolutionary”, the artist offers: “I feel awesome – it’s a beautiful thing, a message that I feel like needs to get across with so much going on. It is the right time to really relate.” He lists Tupac Shakur as his biggest influence (“He’s the head of it all.”) and ran the point for the Southridge High basketball team as an outlet to express his emotions. So, Sanders is no stranger to bright lights and crowds, but his talent for writing lyrics led to a more supreme calling.

Sanders came of age musically in the 90s, starting to write and perform at the age of 10.  Inspired by his mother, a singer named Juliette Middleton who introduced Sanders to the sounds of Prince, Muddy Waters, The Beatles and Bob Marley, and his father Andre Sanders, who turned his life around from the streets to the church and community, Sanders understood the healing power of words.

“Revolutionary” is a high energy, political and passionate expression of society’s problems. Razor sharp lyrics are unapologetic, combined with a beat and optimism rooted in island culture – Sanders’ paternal grandparents were Bahamian – creating a sound that is authentic and addictive. For Sanders, every track tells a story, and he has plenty more to write.

The track was produced Cei (Clientele), recorded at Cei Studios in Miami, and the lyrics were penned by Sanders. The voice heard at the end is legendary Black Panthers leader Fred Hampton.

Stokoff Releases “Country Music Hits en Español” Album Also Featuring Original Music

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Remakes of songs by Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney and others are mixed in with compositions by the Colombian / German Country Music en Español artist

Nashville, TN – January 29, 2021 – Stokoff, the German-born, Colombia-raised singer, songwriter and producer has realized a long sought-after goal: to issue an album’s worth of country music hits by some of his favorite acts alongside some of his own originals. Recorded and mixed in Nashville, TN and mastered at Gateway Studios by Adam Ayan, the new 17-song collection called Country Music Hits en Español is now streaming and available on all major online music stores. It features the lead single “Solo Por Ti” (“All About You“).

“I am very proud because of this release because we worked very hard developing and realizing my Country Music en Español sound,” says Stokoff. “These 17 songs are a milestone for me personally, and each song truly tells a story. I enjoyed the challenge of re-imagining and singing the covers in my native language of Spanish, and I hope that comes across to listeners.” For him, working with incredibly talented musicians in Miami and Nashville to make the record, and having the opportunity to work with the late Dan Warner before he passed away were the best parts about the process.

In 2020, Stokoff released tributes to several of his favorite recording artists: Fito Paez (“A Rodar Mi Vida“), Jose Feliciano (“Que Sera“), Rascal Flatts (“Camino Difícil“, the Spanish version of “Bless the Broken Road”), and Tim McGraw (“Nunca Te Olvides de Amar“/ “Humble & Kind”). He also issued the lyric video for “Si Tu No Estas“, which features stunningly beautiful visuals by Youssef Abd-Elfadel, and a clip for “Fuego y Hielo“, shot in Nashville in 2020. He also performed weekly Facebook livestream solo concerts on his Facebook page. Before the pandemic hit, he made his Carnaval on the Mile debut in Coral Gables, FL.

The originals on CMHEE were written in Stokoff’s unique style, resulting in an energetic and positive listening experience, and each track features stellar performances by a roster of amazing County studio musicians. In addition, the collection features the co-production and guitar work of the beloved and highly respected Warner. The album will be pressed to vinyl and issued on CD in the months to come.

Coupled with this monumental release, Stokoff has also recently undertaken another huge life change: he has relocated to Nashville with his family. “It’s a big step in my musical journey, and I think it is the place to be if you want to write songs and get really involved in the country music scene,” states the artist.

Birdman’s Clambake Celebrate the Release of Build a Bridge at Bar Nancy December 18

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Miami rock and roll band issues new collection of songs recorded in the mid-2000s, fete the new album at the Little Havana craft cocktail joint

Miami, FL – December 2, 2020 – Better late than never. Birdman’s Clambake will be celebrating the release of a new collection of originals called Build a Bridge recorded in 2004 on Friday, December 18, 2020, beginning at 9 p.m. at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135). The evening will be kicked off by an opening set of music by special guest Alexa Lash and feature several of the dozen songs from the new album played live. No cover, 21 and over welcome, facial coverings are required. CD copies of the new album will be available for purchase at $10 and just in time for the holidays.

“I am excited and absolutely relieved to finally be putting out this ‘new’ collection of 12 songs,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Sean Gould, who is also known as the Birdman and serves as the Nancy’s house audio engineer. “It was quite an experience to record them with Brendan Buckley (drums / production / mixing) and Fernando Perdomo (bass), and for me, if there is a silver lining to this pandemic, it’s that these songs will finally see the light of day.” The Nancy will cap attendance at 50% capacity and strictly enforce mask-wearing and social distancing rules as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The old/new set picks up where the band’s previous release Shooting Star (2001) left off: a heavy dose of hard rock and blues, buoyed by optimism and a palpable sense of humor. From the sunny disposition of “Beautiful Day”, to the blues-based kitsch of “Swamp Thing”, the pleasant sonic oddity that is “Egypt (Calling)”, and the tender finality of “I’ll Be OK”, the album shines with great song writing and even better performances. Stand outs also include “Angel I Can Trust” and the nod to country music heavyweight Johnny Cash called “Nashville”.

Buckley is a noted session player, recording and touring with the likes of Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Lauren Hill, DMX, David Bisbal, Nil Lara, Fulano de Tal, and the Spam Allstars. However, being the live drummer for Shakira has kept him on the road for most of the last two decades, which might help explain why the project was held up for so long. “Due to COVID-19, he was off the road and had time to mix the CD,” says Gould. Brendan is a University of Miami graduate and veteran of the Miami music scene, which is how he and the Birdman originally crossed paths.

L.A. based singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Perdomo is also a Miami music scene veteran, which is also how he met Gould. He is a member of Jakob Dylan’s touring band and was recently featured in the hit music documentary Echo in the Canyon. Fernando owns and operates the Reseda Ranch recording studio and has just released an instrumental reggae version of “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” with legendary drummer Carmine Appice. More songs by the duo are in the offing.

Recorded at Birdman’s notorious Little River area warehouse / studio, the album features backing vocals by Alana and Nicole Chirino, Maryel Epps, and Elsten Torres (Fulano de Tal).

Clambake features virtuoso guitar playing by Sean, backed by the powerful rhythm section made up of Monchy Coruguedo on drums and Michael Mut on bass and vocals. The band’s repertoire varies from show to show and includes a fair amount of improvisations, but never strays too far from the blues and classics from the 50s, 60s and 70s. They will be joined by the singer / songwriter Lash on a few numbers.

Bar Nancy first opened in Little Havana in 2017. The bar’s theme is colonial-era nautical, and its main bar mimics the galley of the famous namesake ship. A daily happy hour offers half-priced drinks 4 to 7 p.m. The bar offers a sizable selection of draft and canned beers, as well as specialty cocktails and gourmet grilled cheese by the food vendor The Cheese Stands Alone. An outside patio offers ample seating and a smoking area.

Jessi Campo Releases La Lupe Remake “Que Te Pedi”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recording Artist Jessi Campo Releases La Lupe Remake “Que Te Pedi

Digital-only track first single from new tribute album to be issued July 19
Miami, FL – July 12, 2016Miami-based songwriter / chanteuse Jessi Campo released her latest single today. “Que Te Pedi” was originally a hit in the 1960s for the fiery Cuban performer La Lupe, who was known as the Queen of Latin Soul. Produced by Jose D. Velazquez, the remake is somewhat of a legacy piece for Campo, who self-identifies with La Lupe’s passionate delivery and fiercely independent attitude, and whose fatherGiovanni Rodriguez worked alongside Tito Puente, famed Puerto Rican band leader and La Lupe producer. The single is streaming on Spotify, available for purchase on Google Play, and will be accompanied by a lyric video.

“The recent Celia series on Telemundo included the appearance of the legend’s contemporary La Lupe, which sparked my interest in the artist’s original catalog,” says Campo. “I realized her passionate songs truly spoke to my life experiences and that her emotive style was a perfect fit for mine. It also reflected my love for the mid-to late 60s New York Latin music scene, as well as my Cuban roots.”

Campo, encouraged by festival producer Tony Cruz Sr. to explore the bolerostyle, has recorded what is perhaps the first acoustic piano / vocal version of the classic “Que Te Pedi”, featuring Miami-based jazz pianist, educator and author Mike Orta (Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Nestor Torres) on the ivories. Further adding to the legacy aspect of the single, Tito Puente, Jr. serves as co-producer on the track.

Campo was also drawn to the trail blazed by La Lupe for women, one of fiercely strong independence. The latter originally performed in clubs around Cuba, eventually becoming the owner of one before being forced to give it all up sue to the political change over. La Lupe emigrated to New York in 1962, where she teamed up with fellow Cuban exile Mongo Santamaria, and Puente.

Her upcoming full-length La Pasion de La Lupe will be released July 19, 2016, featuring additional cuts by La Lupe, including another well-known staple “La Tirana”. It will also feature “Vivio La Vida”, a moving tribute to Campo’s father co-written and produced by Michael NOMAD Ripoll (guitarist and musical director for Babyface).
