Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Miami’s Electric Piquete at Dunedin Brewery October 10

Band also marking the anniversary of the release of first-ever full-length Azabache

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dunedin, FL – September 16, 2025 – Fresh off being named the “Best Musical Act” in the 2025 Miami New Times “Best of Miami” Readers’ Choice poll, Miami-based Latin funk fusionistas Electric Piquete will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Dunedin Brewery (937 Douglas Ave, Dunedin, FL 34698) on Friday, October 10, 2025, beginning at 9 p.m. They will also be celebrating the release of their first full-length collection of new and mostly instrumental music titled Azabache, which is now streaming on all platforms and available on CD through Bandcamp. Show is free and open to 21 and over.

“I am not personally Hispanic, but growing up in Florida I’ve had plenty of Hispanic friends in my lifetime who have made an impact on my cultural experience of life,” says Dunedin Brewery Operator Michael Lyn Bryant. “Having Electric Piquete perform at Dunedin Brewery for Hispanic Heritage Month is the best way I can personally celebrate – by inviting a musical troupe of Hispanic friends from Miami who play some of the tightest Latin funk in the state.”

Formed in the summer of 2007, the band’s influences are as diverse as the Miami region that birthed them, ranging from rock to jazz spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive, and R&B. The first two singles off Azabache are titled “Chunk”, a mid-tempo funk number, and the up-tempo Latin groove of “Guayabera”; they were both mixed by Grammy-winning producer and engineer Carlos El Loco” Bedoya (BeyoncéMick JaggerEnrique Iglesias).

The third single and video called “Muevete Con Ganas” was released in July and features singer / songwriter / percussionist MannySwagg on lead vocals. The video was shot on location throughout Miami and at the world-famous Ball & Chain in Little Havana. The track has been around as a fully realized instrumental song since 2009, and the group decided to join forces with the frontman after a particularly energetic stage performance in Miami Beach during the summer of 2023.

Timeless Faith” puts conguero Raymond Ayala and his smooth Puerto Rican / Spanish rap flow front and center. “S.A.C.A.” is another idea that has been around for some time, and the effort finally gave the band a chance to commit it to tape. “Viva Tirado”, the Gerald Wilson / Fania Allstars standard, has long been a part of the band’s live repertoire and helped initially seed the group; it appeared on a mixtape band co-founder and drummer Ed Rosado created for fellow co-founder and bassist Michael Mut in the early 1990s.

The word Azabache means black amber or jet and finds its origins in the Andalusian region of Spain. Its value and use as jewelry trace back to ancient Rome, and its modern use to Cuban culture, where it is meant to ward off negative energies. Azabaches are also said to protect wearers from fear, indecisiveness, and evil.

Dunedin Brewery was founded in 1995 by Michael Norman Bryant, following his deep passion for home-brewing. Officially brewing by 1996, the first keg to be delivered was an Imperial Brown Ale to Skip’s Bar & Grille in Downtown Dunedin. Since that moment, Dunedin Brewery has grown from one employee to nearly 50, currently under the leadership of the founder’s son, Michael Lyn Bryant. Today, they are a full-fledged microbrewery with a kitchen and live entertainment nearly every night of the week.

Independently released, Electric Piquete’s latest record was engineered and co-mixed by long-time collaborator Ferny Coipel. Mut, Rosado and guitarist Chris Correoso co-produced the album. High-resolution photos of the band and the album cover are available here.

Guanabanas Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Electric Piquete and Cortadito October 11

Recurring Latin music series at waterfront restaurant and entertainment venue created 10 years ago

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jupiter, FL – September 9, 2025 – Two of Miami’s most renown Latin bands will play a double header at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 North Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) on Saturday, October 11, 2025 for Noche Latina. The pair of award-winning groups in Electric Piquete (Latin funk / fusion) and Cortadito (traditional Cuban folk) will take the stage for musical celebrations first from 3 to 6 p.m. (all ages welcome), and then 8 to 10 p.m. (21 and over), respectively. The recurring Latin music series was first launched by Roots Music, Inc. in 2015 to offer area music fans a little more variety.

“We’re proud to have created and sustained a wonderful tradición of presenting Latin bands to the local music-loving community for a decade now,” says Guanabanas talent buyer and Roots Music founder Matt Cahur. “I look forward to hosting the bands and their fans, which they’ve successfully cultivated by playing here over the years and presenting a whole afternoon and evening of live Latin music to locals.” A musician himself, Cahur is the venue’s lead audio engineer who also manages musical acts, and produces and promotes local and regional concerts.

Electric Piquete, fresh off being named the “Best Musical Act” in the 2025 Miami New Times “Best of Miami” Readers’ Choice poll, is a Latin funk outfit whose influences are as diverse as the Miami region that birthed them, ranging from rock to jazz spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive and R&B. They play mostly original instrumentals with vocals and rapping featured on several numbers, along with several choice cover songs.

They released a third single and video from their 2024 full length debut called Azabache titled “Muevete Con Ganas” in July. The song features singer / songwriter / percussionist MannySwagg on lead vocals and the video was shot on location throughout Miami and at the world-famous Ball & Chain in Little Havana.

Since its origins thirteen years ago, Cortadito has evolved into one of the torchbearers of a pop culture phenomenon that is two centuries strong. A traditional folk and acoustic band named the Miami New Times’ Best of Miami “Best Latin Act” in 2009, the band focuses on performing one of the earliest styles of Cuban country music known as Son (pronounced sOwn), their sound can best be described as reminiscent of the famed Buena Vista Social Club.

Earlier this year, Cortadito released a full-length album titled The Guajiro Triangle which features guest performances by Nestor Torres and Aymée Nuviola, including their latest single “Guajira En La Madrugada“.

From its humble beginnings as a one-time sandwich shop / kayak rental place in 2004, Guanabanas has grown into an “Old Florida” local mainstay. The enchanting open-air restaurant has been named “Best Waterfront Restaurant” by the Palm Beach Post and “Best Restaurant” by SouthFlorida.com, been featured on PBS Local, Emeril’s Florida, and Chef Michele Bernstein’s Check Please, and become a favorite hangout of professional athletes and international celebrities. Live music is a staple, with Big Wednesdays plus Friday, Saturday, and Sunday programming.

For more information about the show and the venue, to browse the menu and shop the online store, visit Guanabanas.com or call 561.747.8878.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with Electric Piquete 10/6

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Electric Piquete Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Toejam Backlot October 6

Latin funk band to play a Latin Soul party at the Wynwood film set and music venue beginning at 9 p.m.

Hialeah, FL – September 19, 2018 – There many are reasons why Electric Piquete are two-time Miami New Times’ “Best Latin Band” award winners, and one of them is that the band revel in their Hispanic roots. They have fully incorporated Caribbean rhythms into their sound, have covered and recorded tracks by standout Latin artists such as Celia CruzMongo Santamaria, Cheo Feliciano, and have even written songs about Jose Marti and Cuban beaches.

On Saturday, October 6, 2018, Electric Piquete will celebrate their Hispanic Heritage at the Toejam Backlot in Wynwood (150 NW 21st St, Miami, FL 33127) with a special concert at the private event space / studio. Used largely for photo and video shoots, the space includes indoor and outdoor areas, a proper stage with concert sound and lighting, as well as one of the largest prop collections in all of South Florida.

“We celebrate our Hispanidad all year round, but are looking forward to playing at the Toejam Backlot for the first time in concert with the rest of the country’s salute to Hispanic Heritage,” says Michael Mut, co-founder, bassist and band leader. “We invite everyone out to this wonderfully stimulating venue for a night of live Latin soul / funk / fusion, food trucks, fun and more.” Admission is $10 at the door; 21 and over are welcome.

Electric Piquete’s music has already been licensed by Lexus, and featured in the Emmy-winning Joe Cardona documentary Miami Boheme, plus an episode of CNNGo. The band is a veritable melting pot of influences that range from rock to jazz, and spiced with everything in between: funk, fusion, old-school salsa, progressive, and R&B. Though mostly instrumental, they feature vocals with three-part harmonies as well as some rapping on several numbers.

The band is currently running a crowd-funding campaign for a new release on vinyl, CD and digital – those interested in contributing to the cause can navigate here: https://igg.me/at/EPIGG. In 2016, they issued the Singles Collection, which encapsulated the group’s most recent and noteworthy works. Last year a live version of the relatively new track “Chunk” surfaced on the band’s Soundcloud page.

Electric Piquete also features co-founder Ed Rosado on drums, Chris Correoso (guitar), and Rich Dixon on trumpet and flugelhorn. The band’s sound is very often augmented by Raymond Ayala on percussion and vocals, Charles Gardner on keyboards, and Robert Smiley on tenor sax, flute and vocals. Occasionally, the band features special guests Damian J. Sanchez on saxophones, flute, and vocals, Maco Monthervil on lead vocals, and Jose Miranda on trombone.
