Local Musicians Rally for Democratic Senate Candidate Angie Nixon

Events planned for October 18 in Lake Worth Beach and October 23 in Fort Lauderdale to platform local and statewide progressive candidates and turn out early voters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fort Lauderdale, FL – October 13, 2026 – Local songwriter and flautist Laura Sue Wilansky (aka Laura Sue, the Silver Nightingale) has long championed progressive causes and candidates, and this midterm election cycle is no different. She is organizing two Angie Nixon Rocks! events, along with a little help from her friends, and the events will be held in Lake Worth Beach and Fort Lauderdale. All the musicians and artists involved are donating their performances ahead of the midterm election.

“I helped national organization Face the Music produce shows all over Florida, and observing their model of identifying progressive candidates running in winnable races who can benefit from support has been very useful and enlightening,” said Wilansky. “They successfully use music shows to recruit new volunteers for these campaigns, and they’ve made a significant difference in tight races all over the country. Working with Face the Music inspired me to do this for Angie.”

The first show is scheduled for this Sunday, October 18, 2026, at The Bamboo Room (25 South J Street, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460), noon to 3:30 p.m., featuring Earthlings Muse (Jae Deryn Moshen and Pearl Pop), Jim Wurster, Suni Storm, Steve Minotti, The Hellabaloo, Noam Brown, and Laura Sue, the Silver Nightingale.

The second show will be held at the United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale (2501 NE 30th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33306), on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 7 to 10:30 p.m in the Multipurpose Room. Musical acts include The Copays Quartet (and Sons!), Alexa Lash, Rod MacDonald, Piper and Nightingale, Jamie Friend and more to be announced.

Both events will also feature fun art activities, poetry, and short campaign speeches, and both are free and open to the public of all ages. Wilansky and company are coordinating with the statewide Artists for Angie initiative, a fully grassroots artists initiative working with artists all over the state.

Local Musicians Organize “Get Out the Vote” Event September 29 at Skatebird in Miami

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Elected officials, candidates, environmental, and activist groups slated to speak and be represented at all-ages event 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Miami, FL – September 11, 2024 – Ahead of the October 7, 2024 deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election, local musicians John Falcone and Michael Mut are stressing the need to be election ready. The two bassists are hosting a “Get Out the Vote” event Sunday, September 29 at Skatebird (533 NE 83rd St, Miami, FL 33138) from 12 noon to 6 p.m. All ages are welcome to the free event.

The event will feature selections by DJ Le Spam and local DJs Sophie and Geo, live music by Nicolle Chirino, Alexa Lash, Condors and Chaos, and the Hanging Chads, plus live painting by local artist Grisell Gajano. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Representative Debbie Murcasel-Powell, Senator and Miami-Dade Commissioner Rene Garcia, Mayor Omarr C. Nickerson, Ph. D., and candidates J.C. Planas (Miami-Dade Elections Supervisor) and Stanley Jean-Poix (Florida District 110 Representative) have been invited to speak.

Representatives from the Yes on 3 recreational marijuana and Yes on 4 reproductive rights initiatives have also been asked to speak and table the event, as have the Love the Everglades Movement, the voter registration organization Headcount, and the Miami-Dade County Elections Department. There will be other artists, organizations, and speakers to be announced.

“Your vote is the one true power a citizen has in a democratic system, and that right should not be taken for granted,” says Falcone. “This election is about the continued existence of our long-standing democracy, and especially about the future of our daughters’ and sons’ generation.” John is a father and a self-employed musician.

“There is nothing more important to a democracy than participating in the elections process,” says Mut. “We’re hoping to raise awareness about the upcoming registration and vote by mail ballot request deadlines, and give community leaders the chance to speak out about the issues that matter most to Floridians.”
