Alexa Lash Releases “Already Not the Same” January 7, Celebrates at Bar Nancy

Artist transforms emotion into ear candy for the pandemic era in new release out Friday

Miami, FL – January 4, 2022 – Miami-born singer-songwriter Alexa Lash has written and recorded another collection of songs that serves as a four-song experience that takes listeners on a journey through joy, nostalgia, sadness, and empowerment. Already Not the Same hits all streaming platforms on Friday, January 7, 2022. Lash will be celebrating the release that night with a special party at Bar Nancy in Little Havana (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL 33135) beginning at 9 p.m.

Lash has found comfort in emotion with her new release, which is a follow up to her debut EP Sage and Wine. “It’s hard to believe how much has changed in just a year,” she says. “I have so much music I want to share with the world, and this is just the beginning. I hope everyone hears just how much love I put into the music.”

The first single is called “Baked Apples”, and it delves into nostalgia and the power of love and sensory memory, and is a reminder that when someone is gone, their memory is always with you throughout the rest of your life. It is out now – click here to listen.

“Stay Over” is a gooey pop delve into romance, and serves as a romp into expressing our tendency towards the need for companionship. It’s about telling someone you like them, openly and confidently. And not being afraid to be “that person” who makes the first move.

“Facing Reality” is an emotional trek through unrequited love. It is about expectation, hope, and the reality that must be faced when feelings aren’t reciprocated. This harsh truth is the crux and inspiration for the emotion that drives not just the lyrics, but how Lash sings it on the EP and in person.

“History” is a fun, flavorful track inspired by confidence and self-assuredness. It’s playful, embeds elements of spoken word/rap, trumpet provided by Julian Cifuentes, and touches of Spanish guitar by Ferny Coipel, who produced and engineered the set at the Shack North in Hialeah, FL.

Overall, Lash’s music is a self-reflective kind of folksy, a tone likened to bluesy, her hooks sticky and catchy, with a touch of soul, and drizzled with a smidgen of pop. It is all at once memorable, insightful and intimate, beautifully-crafted, and entirely original.

Marcel Salas, who is the lead guitarist in Lash’s live band Alexa & The Old Fashioneds, opens the evening with a solo set Friday; he plays the drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, and piano on the recordings. The EP was mastered by Zach Ziskin. The cover art for the lead single is equally as personal and was designed by Lash’s former bandmate and Miami-based artist, Johann C. Muñoz.

MOUSE KING Returns to The Mandelstam Theater for Eighth Holiday Season

Family-friendly, South Florida holiday tradition to be performed in South Miami venue located on the campus of The Mandelstam School December 10 – 12, 2021

South Miami, FL – November 9, 2021 – MOUSE KING is back again to remind us that the “Key to Christmas” is love. Conceived by Sesame Street and Jim Henson Company veteran Noel MacNeal, and the award-winning singer-songwriter and prolific composer of children’s musical theater Jim Camacho, the holiday theater production will play at The Mandelstam Theater (8530 SW 57th Ave, South Miami, 33143) during the run up to the holidays, Friday December 10 through Sunday, December 12. The musical did not run during 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions on large indoor gatherings.  

“We’re very excited to be back this year to retell the story of Mouserick and company and to once again share the holiday spirit with the South Florida community,” says Camacho. “Now more than ever, the themes of love, family, and holiday cheer are extremely relevant and need to be heard.” Jim also wrote the musicals Fools’ Paradise, which enjoyed a run off-Broadway, The Cavie Islanders and the Troll, The Guru of Gir, and several others. 

MOUSE KING reimagines the story of The Nutcracker and tells it from the point of view of the mice. With master puppeteers and guest artists from New York City, some of whom make regular appearances on Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, along with a cast of talented child actors from the Miami area, MOUSE KING sprinkles an imaginative twist on the classic Nutcracker tale. The show has enjoyed a seven-year run of sellout performance, so advance ticket purchases are highly recommended.

ABOUT JIM CAMACHO  

As co-founder (with his brother John) of the legendary Miami band The Goods, Camacho first attracted national attention through a series of albums that allowed the band to work with legendary producer Tom Dowd, sharing stages with the likes of Pearl Jam, The Smithereens, Cracker and Matthew Sweet, and reaping any number of accolades in the process.

Last year, more than 850 non-profit organizations benefited from $18.2 million dollars in donations. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Corey Woods is the given name of Raekwon, and he also goes by TheChef. Known for his work alongside fellow Wu members such as Ghostface Killah’s Ironman, he’s an integral part of many of the Wu’s collective releases. Raekwon’s solo debut Only Built 4 Cuban Linx stands as his masterpiece, and the tour is fêting its place as one of the all-time great hip-hop releases and its role popularizing the role of the Mafia in rap. The artist was also a big part of the 2010 Def Jam release Wu Massacre, which also featured Method Man and Ghostface Killah. He issued an EP called The Appetition in 2020.

Born Gary Earl Grice also in Brooklyn, GZA is often hailed as the most intellectual of all the Wu Tang Clan members. His rapping technique has been termed precise, intricate, and literate by Allmusic.com. His set rounds out this amazing bill, and he is set to perform cuts from his cryptic cult classic Liquid Swords, which was proclaimed by Rolling Stone to be one of the “Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. He’s also known for his 1999 release Beneath the Surface, and Dark Matter, an as-yet unreleased collaboration with the electronic / new age wizard Vangelis. 

Dennis Coles (AKA Ghostface Killah and Tony Starks) was born in Staten Island, NY, and his output as a solo artist largely equals his work with the Clan. From guesting on Raekwon’s epic Only Built…and GZA’s Liquid Swords, to his own legendary platinum smash Ironman and subsequent solo drops Supreme Cliente (2000) and the Pretty Toney Album (2004), Ghostface has seemingly done it all. He will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ironman, which features a perfect combination of the artist’s street lyricism with the RZA’s gritty soulful production style.

Third Wheel Cover Band Secures Residency at Casa Tiki

Miami’s Electric Piquete Returns to Dunedin Brewery Friday, October 22, 9 p.m.

Miami, FL – The two-time Miami New Times “Best Latin Band” Electric Piquete rolls back into the Tampa Bay area Friday, October 22, 2021 for a 9 p.m. performance at the Dunedin Brewery (937 Douglas Ave, Dunedin, FL 34698). The free show is open to 21 and over, and the band is set to preview new music from its upcoming full-length release, scheduled for an independent release in the spring of 2022. They had been scheduled for a date during April 2020 that had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

The band has played virtually all major events in South Florida, and in 2016, graduated to the major festival circuit, travelling to NC to play the GrassRoots Festival of Music Arts & Dance, followed by an appearance at the Orange Blossom Festival in 2018. They made their Afro Roots Fest debut in Key West during 2019, and performed again in Islamorada during 2021. Their influences are as diverse as the Miami region that birthed them, ranging from rock to jazz spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive and R&B.

Dunedin Brewery was founded in 1995 by Michael Norman Bryant, following his deep passion for home-brewing. Officially brewing by 1996, the first keg to be delivered was an Imperial Brown Ale to Skip’s Bar & Grille in Downtown Dunedin. Jim Camacho Returns to Luna Star Café Friday, October 29

“I always love playing the Luna and getting a chance to do it with a fellow artist I admire is a huge plus,” says Camacho, who emerged from his pandemic performance hiatus at the Luna Star Café with a successful benefit show back in May. “I’m looking forward to playing a potpourri of  songs from all phases of my career and having a little spooky musical fun with the audience there and at home.” Camacho has been busy writing new music as a solo artist and member of The Goods, as well as for a new musical currently in development.

Community Arts and Culture to Present Dia de los Muertos Celebrations in Doral and Islamorada with Ameyal

Miami-based non-profit and Mexican cultural organization host events at Doral Yard October 31 and the Florida Keys Brewing Company on November 2

Miami, FL – October 5, 2021 – Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Meso-American celebration of ancestors that precedes Halloween on October 31 and All Saints’ Day on November 1, and coincides with the Roman Catholic All Souls’ Day on November 2. Because Mexican-Americans encompass the largest Hispanic group in the U.S., and since going mainstream with the Disney Coco smash film in 2017, the holiday has become even more commonplace as a way to honor the departed. It’s a day of remembrance, prayer, love, and celebration. 

Community Arts and Culture has been partnering with the Ameyal Mexican Cultural Group for some time now, and in 2021, the two organizations will once again team up to bring Day of the Dead celebrations to the new Backyard area in The Doral Yard (8455 NW 53rd St Suite 106, Doral, FL 33166) on Sunday, October 31, and the Florida Keys Brewing Company (FKBC), which is located at 81611 Old Hwy, Islamorada, FL 33036, on Tuesday, November 2. 

Both events will feature live traditional Mexican folk music, a procession, airbrush face painting, and a calavera (sugar skull) station, and are free and open to the public beginning at 5 p.m. 

“We’re extremely excited to once again count on the wonderful cultural ambassadors from Ameyal to bring this beautiful celebration to our supporters,” says event coordinator Renee Chavez. “Our organization prides itself on bringing musical and artistic events to underserved communities, and we are happy to branch out into the Doral and Islamorada communities with something like this for the first time. Our sincere thanks to the Doral Yard and the FKBC for their support.” Chavez spearheads the Inheritants, the group responsible for organizing these events.

Electric Piquete to Debut at Oasis Wynwood October 9

Award-winning Latin funk band to play two sets beginning at 6 p.m., a free, all-ages show at the area’s new cultural epicenter

Miami, FL – September 28, 2021 – The Oasis Wynwood opened up in the spring of 2021 and has quickly become the area’s premier eatery, retail, and nightlife hotspot. Hosting national acts as well as local favorites, the Oasis is located at 2335 N Miami Ave, FL 33127. Electric Piquete will make their debut on the outdoor courtyard stage on Saturday, October 9, 2021, beginning at 6 p.m. The free show is open to the public of all ages. 

“It’s been a while since we’ve played in the Wynwood district and can’t wait to hit at this amazing new venue,” says band co-founder and drummer / vocalist Ed Rosado. “The vibrant scene that is the Wynwood arts district always brings out the best in us, and we are thankful for the gig opportunity granted by Oasis.” Rosado is the band’s musical director who also writes and arranges songs for the band. 

Oasis Wynwood features an outdoor food and beverage experience, offering a diverse blend of dining options, each operating from a colorful, outfitted shipping container. Oasis’s food concepts – Alidoro, Buya Dumplings + Buns, CHIKIN, Mr. Mandolin, Prince Street Pizza, and Los Buenos – showcase both well-known local chef talents as well as New York City favorites. The focal point of the spacious outdoor setting is the “Tower Bar”, constructed from stacked shipping containers and adorned with a colorful mural by renowned Spanish artist Antonyo Marest. There is also the Huacachina, an indoor lounge nestled in the back of the property. 

ElectricPiquete is a two-time Miami New TimesBest of Miami “Best Latin Band” award-winning Latin funk outfit. First named so in 2009, they were again crowned as such in 2015. The band has played virtually all major events in South Florida, including the Miami Music Festival, Calle Ocho, Carnaval on the Mile, the Ball & Chain Music Festival, and Arts in the Park. Few major venues have not seen them grace their stage. 

In 2016, the band graduated to the major festival circuit, travelling to NC to play the GrassRoots Festival of Music Arts & Dance, followed by an appearance at the Orange Blossom Festival in 2018, and Afro Roots Fest in 2019 (Key West) and 2021 (Islamorada). The band is currently in preproduction mode getting ready to record new material for their long-awaited full length release, which will be available in the spring of 2022. Their influences are as diverse as the Miami region that birthed them, ranging from rock to jazz spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive and R&B.

Though mostly instrumental, the band does feature vocals and rapping on several numbers; a tight rhythm section and heavy percussion supports melodious horn play. Their repertoire consists of mostly original compositions, but they are well-versed in Latin and jazz standards, borrowing from a range of artists, from Horace Silver to Cheo Feliciano.

Todo El Mundo Dice AHO! Medicine Music Concert Coming to Pinecrest Gardens September 17

Tickets are now on sale for the eighth edition of the festival featuring live music by several artists from the Americas, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and open to all ages

Miami, FL – August 19, 2021 – The Lakota word for “thank you” is aho. In the spirit of gratitude and Native American culture comes the Todo el Mundo Dice AHO! Medicine Music Concert scheduled for Friday, September 17, 2021, in the Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens (11000 SW 57th Ave, Pinecrest, FL 33156).

Several different regions and traditions will be represented by five musical acts. Tickets are available online at bit.ly/AHO_21, all ages are welcome, and doors open at 5 p.m. The music will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

“Despite the logistical setbacks due to the pandemic, we are happy to be able to connect Community Arts & Culture with the TEMDA concert,” says event producer Eric Vazquez. “We are looking forward to welcoming all these wonderful artists and the event itself to our roster of programs.”

Featured artists include Jesús Hidalgo, Teresa de Jesús and Musiana (Venezuela), EKeKo Nation (Argentina), and Shimshai (Washington) and Susana (Colombia).

Jesús Hidalgo is a singer / songwriter and producer who recognizes Mother Earth as an entity with rights worthy of respect.

Teresa Padron considers herself a guardian of Mother Earth, and a singer / songwriter of the path of consciousness dedicated to facilitating ancestral circular dances, sacred circles, and moon dances.

Author, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Tonolec Diego Perez (AKA EKeKo Nation) spreads his socio-environmental sound message as an activist who has released three albums, including Qomunidad, earning him about one and a half million plays on Spotify.

Musiana expresses her intimacy with life and the mysticism that has accompanied her from a very young age through a bossa nova and folk-influenced sound.

Shimshai’s music invokes the sentiment of ancestral devotion and dedication to higher consciousness, and partner Xochitlquetzalli (Susana) is a medicine woman steeped in the Indigenous traditions of North, Central and South America.

There will be several vendors present, including a booth representing the performing artists, one for the wellness advocate Doterra, and one showcasing Community Arts & Culture. Concessions will be available through Pinecrest Gardens.
