Miami, FL – September 11, 2024 – Ahead of the October 7, 2024 deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election, local musicians John Falcone and Michael Mut are stressing the need to be election ready. The two bassists are hosting a “Get Out the Vote” event Sunday, September 29 at Skatebird (533 NE 83rd St, Miami, FL 33138) from 12 noon to 6 p.m. All ages are welcome to the free event.

The event will feature selections by DJ Le Spam and local DJs Sophie and Geo, live music by Nicolle ChirinoAlexa LashCondors and Chaos, and the Hanging Chads, plus live painting by local artist Grisell Gajano. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Representative Debbie Murcasel-Powell, Senator and Miami-Dade Commissioner Rene Garcia, Mayor Omarr C. Nickerson, Ph. D., and candidates J.C. Planas (Miami-Dade Elections Supervisor) and Stanley Jean-Poix (Florida District 110 Representative) have been invited to speak.

Representatives from the Yes on 3 recreational marijuana and Yes on 4 reproductive rights initiatives have also been asked to speak and table the event, as have the Love the Everglades Movement, the voter registration organization Headcount, and the Miami-Dade County Elections Department. There will be other artists, organizations, and speakers to be announced.

“Your vote is the one true power a citizen has in a democratic system, and that right should not be taken for granted,” says Falcone. “This election is about the continued existence of our long-standing democracy, and especially about the future of our daughters’ and sons’ generation.” John is a father and a self-employed musician.

“There is nothing more important to a democracy than participating in the elections process,” says Mut. “We’re hoping to raise awareness about the upcoming registration and vote by mail ballot request deadlines, and give community leaders the chance to speak out about the issues that matter most to Floridians.”
