Mouse King is Back!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mouse King Returns to Mandelstam Theater in South Miami December 8 – 10

South Florida holiday tradition tells the classic Nutcracker tale from the mice point of view

November 14, 2017 – South Miami, FL – For the fifth year in a row, the children’s holiday musical Mouse King will entertain audiences at the Mandelstam Theater (8530 SW 57th Ave, South Miami, FL 33143). The production – book by Sesame Street veteran Noel MacNeal and music and lyrics by award-winning composer Jim Camacho – captures the imagination and spirit of the holiday season, and showcases professional actors and master puppeteers from New York City, as well as some of the area’s best young talent. Mouse King has enjoyed sell-out performances since its debut in 2013. Reserved seating for the production is available for the first time; tickets begin at $25 and can be purchased online at www.MouseKingTickets.com.

“The show has really resonated with kids and adults alike and we’re thankful for all of the support given to it over the years,” says Camacho. “It’s a labor of love getting it from the page to the stage, but it’s rewarding to share our little heartwarming Christmas tradition with new faces and loyal Mouse-Kingers.” Jim wrote and produced all of the original music in Mouse King (listen here: www.MouseKingMusic.com), and also serves as the director of the production. The puppets used in the show were designed and built by Jim Henson Company alum James WojtalJr. (Sesame Street, Bear in the Big Blue House, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver).

Mouse King follows the story of the tiny protagonist Mouserick, his trials and travels, and eventual ascension to the throne of the “Kingdom of Sweets”. Along the way, he interacts with humans, learns about the world outside beyond his walls, and fights the Nutcracker and an army of Toy Soldiers. Most importantly for all, the lesson that Chrismouse, er Christmas, is truly about giving and caring for one another, not getting presents, is driven home, a message that applies to children of all ages.

The Nutcracker, written by E. T. A. Hoffman in 1816 and adapted by Alexandre Dumas Pere in 1844, premiered as a ballet in 1892 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Set to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the choreography of Marius Petipa, the holiday fairy tale was an instant success. It debuted stateside in the early 1940s and had become a staple by the mid-1950s. Mouse King’s collaboration began over a 2012 dinner by friends MacNeal and Camacho, who had already worked on “Who Put the Trick in Trick or Treat?”, a “Boo at the Zoo” Halloween production in the Bronx, NY.

The show will run Friday, December 8th, 7 p.m.Saturday, December 9th, 1 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, December 10th, 1 p.m. For more information, please visit www.JimCamacho.com or call 800.838.3006.

Jim Camacho to Launch New Web Series March 24

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jim Camacho to Launch New Adventures in Songwriting Web Series March 24

Labor of musical love presents some of his favorite songwriters, ponder the mystery of where songs come from, and create a new song every show

Miami, FL – March 7, 2017Award-winning composer Jim Camacho’s latest musical creation is the brand-new web series called Adventures in Songwriting, which will begin streaming on YouTube and be available as an iTunes podcast beginning March 24. There will be a show the night before the launch to celebrate the new series at the Luna Star Café (775 NE 125th St, Miami, FL 33161). Staying with the songwriting theme, there will be an open mic kicking off the night from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. All ages welcome, cover charge is $5.

“The idea of the show is to explore what songwriting is all about and what makes a person want to become a songwriter and express themselves in that way,” says Camacho. “You can say a lot in three minutes, and a great song can reach places that are ineffable. ‘What’s that part all about?’ Those are the kinds of discussions we want to have on this show / podcast. Oh, and write a song by the end of the show as well.”

The host and featured artists will share stories about their path in music, what led them to want to become a songwriter and, how they write. By the end of each episode, Jim and company will create and perform a new original song. Webcast from the artist’s YouTube page located at www.youtube.com/JimCamacho and podcast on iTunes (be sure to subscribe), the series will produce at least one episode per month.

The first episode features the rock legend Pickett, guitarist / vocalist and bandleader of the 80’s outfit Charlie Pickett and the Eggs. Future episodes will highlight punk / rocker Rob Elba (The Holy Terrors / Shark Valley Sisters), and indie songwriters Roger Houdaille and Michelle Grand, also known as Ex-Norwegian. Additional artists from Nashville, TN and the UK will be announced soon.

Shot at Camacho’s South Miami home studio, the series is lensed and edited by Juan Davila, a frequent collaborator who produced many of Jim’s latest videos. Camacho & Elba Issue Split Single 5/20 at Gramps

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jim Camacho and Rob Elba Issue a Virtual Split 7” Single May 20, Celebrate at Gramps

Singer-songwriters each performed and recorded a song written by the other, celebrate their release with a special mashup performance at Gramps in Wynwood

Miami, FL – May 3, 2016 – Two of Miami’s premier singer-songwriters, Jim Camacho (The Goods) and Rob Elba (The Holy Terrors, Shark Valley Sisters) long associated through friendship and prominence in the South Florida music scene, have joined musical forces to release a split single of original material. Recorded at Dan Hosker Studio in Miami Beach by another scene heavy, FrankRat BastardFalestra, the new release features an Elba song performed by Camacho called “Messenger” and one penned by Camacho and sung by Elba, “Ugly”.

The two tracks will be available for download and streaming. The release will be celebrated with a special evening of live music at Gramps (176 NW 24th St, Miami, FL 33127-4414), on Friday, May 20, 2016, a night which will feature performances by all three (Camacho, Elba and Falestra), plus a set by Mr. Entertainment and the Pookiesmackers. Doors open at 9 p.m., music begins at 10 p.m., and the cover is $5. 21 and over are welcome.

“Although, I’ve played countless shows with Rob over the years, I’ve always wanted to work with him in the studio,” says Camacho. “This project was the perfect opportunity for it, the timing was right, and I’m truly looking forward to sharing both the song and the video with everyone.” Shot at the two artists’ musical stomping and proving grounds Churchill’s Pub in Little Haiti, the videos, featuring cameo appearances by club founder Dave Daniels, are being produced and edited by Juan Davila from 2 Way Creative, Camacho’s long-time associate.

Elba offers: “So I have known Jim for over 25 years, and for the past 10 or so we have been threatening to collaborate on something. We decided to record the two songs with Rat because we knew he wouldn’t let us get too precious with them. You have to have a fairly good amount of confidence to record with Rat, because he will either tell you something sucks or not say anything at all – which can either mean he loves it or he’s just completely given up on you. He’s either a genius producer or a complete dick…most likely a combination of the two.”

The pair will appear on Shake 108 FM’s “Local Love” show Wednesday, May 18, 2016 to promote the singles and the event, performing live and speaking with host Aimee Beah Moore. Listeners can tune in to 107.9 FM locally or on the web at www.Shake108.com outside the 305.

Miami, FL – March 16, 2015 – Miami singer – songwriter Jim Camacho celebrated the release of his new video “Make It to the Morning Light” with a special performance last week in Fort Lauderdale. Camacho is now offering the single as a downloadable mp3 through his Bandcamp page. Fans can receive it in exchange for a donation that will be split equally between the Switchboard of Miami, which is well-known in the community for expertise in the field of suicide prevention, and Paws 4 You, a local pet rescue and adoption service. Both organizations are registered 501(c)3 non-profits. Those interested in donating / downloading should navigate here: http://bit.ly/JCMMITTML.

Inspired by the beautiful mountain scenery of Giant’s Castle and his interaction with friendly locals while in South Africa recently, Camacho wrote and begin recording the track in Africa, and subsequent recording was done in Miami at Jim’s home studio and in Los Angeles at Fernando Perdomo‘s (Jakob Dylan /Emitt Rhodes) Reseda Ranch Studios and at Jason Hann‘s (String Cheese Incident / EOTO) Bopland Studio. It is Jim’s third single in just over a year and represents new musical territory for Jim: world music. African drums and percussion are a prominent part of the song’s rhythm track.

Lyrically, the song brims with positivity, forgiveness and grace, the main take-away being one of hope. Here he blends his sharp pop sensibilities superbly with the emotional elements that surrounded him at the time. The tune is a sort of call to people in despair to just try to “make it to the morning light.” The miracle of morning, and the solitude combined with the beauty of first light, is symbolic of acceptance and survival. Right after writing the song, Jim was shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Robin Williams and made him feel an even greater desire to get the song completed and released.

Shot in South Miami and in the historic MiMo District of Miami, the video for “Make It to the Morning Light” was filmed and directed by Juan Davila (2Way Creative) and produced by Annie Fernandez. It follows the desperate plight of a young woman played by Michelle Grand (Ex-Norwegian), and an abusive homeless dog owner (Camacho’s friend and frequent collaborator Alex Porro) and the positive, even life-saving effects that our four-legged friends can have on us. Jim’s dog Rudy also plays an important role in the video. Camacho recently adopted another pet dog Marshmallow from Paws 4 You.

The track features Jim on lead vocals, bass, acoustic guitar and toy piano, his brother John Camacho on background vocals, Perdomo on electric, slide and acoustic guitar, and organ, and Hann on drums and percussion. The video release was properly feted at the Culture Room during an opening slot for the legendary Denny Laine (The Moody Blues, Paul McCartney and Wings) March 10.

Camacho will be returning to the U.K. to promote the new single this week. He will first appear on the Tony Moore’s Musical Emporium show which is broadcast on SoHo Radio Saturday, March 19, 7 – 9 a.m. EST, and then perform at the The Bedford Live on Monday, March 21, 3:30 p.m. EST. Both engagements will be streamed live on the web.

Miami, FL – February 24, 2016 – Prolific Miami singer-songwriter Jim Camacho will be celebrating the release of his latest single and video “Make It to the Morning Light”, as well as opening for the legendary Denny Laine(Moody Blues, Paul McCartney and Wings) on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Culture Room (3045 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33306), beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 and the show is open to all ages. The evening will serve as a celebration of the release of Jim’s new song “Make it to the Morning Light”, a catchy life-affirming, world music-tinged number inspired by the artist’s recent trip to South Africa. The video was produced and edited by frequent collaborator Juan Davila from 2Way Creative, who also shot and edited Jim’s clip for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest, an acoustic version of “Big Little World”, which is similarly positive and uplifting.

Camacho’s band, featuring Jordan Welch on drums, Fritz Dorigo andFernando Perdomo on guitar, plus Jim on bass, keys and acoustic guitar, will also include Steph Taylor on keys, acoustic guitar and background vocals andMichael Mut on bass. The group will play the new song – in addition to having it screened at the performance – as well as cuts from Jim’s solo period, his time with The Goods, the band he co-founded and led in the 1990s, and some other surprises.

Along with Paul & Linda McCartney, Laine co-founded Wings, which was one of the most internationally successful bands of the 1970s. The band had 24 hit singles at the top of the charts and won a Grammy for their landmark album “Band on the Run.” Denny co-wrote the world wide hit “Mull of Kintyre” with Paul and in 1977 it became the biggest selling single of all time in the United Kingdom. It ironically broke the sales record for the previous biggest UK single; The Beatles’ “She Loves You”.

Denny, an original member of the Moody Blues, sang the band’s first major hit single “Go Now” in 1964. After a few years, he left the Moody Blues to pursue his solo career managed by the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. After Wings, Denny has continued to have a successful touring and recording career to this day and his passion for music and his love and appreciation of his fans can be seen at every one of his shows.

Laine’s very special, one-night only performance will feature hits from his time in Wings and the Moody Blues, as well as songs from his impressive solo catalog. For more information about Laine, visit www.DennyLaine.com. For more about Camacho, navigate to www.JimCamacho.com.
