Jim Camacho Performs Benefit Concert for Luna Star Café May 21

Miami singer / songwriter returns to live action for the first time in more than a year, aims to help popular North Miami listening house / coffee shop / restaurant

North Miami, FL – May 4, 2021 – Miami singer / songwriter Jim Camacho’s first performance since the pandemic turned the world upside down is happening Friday, May 21, 2021 for a good cause. The show will benefit the host venue, the Luna Star Café, located at 775 NE 125th St, North Miami, FL 33161, and the performance is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. It will feature the artist performing his fan-favorite release / record Beachfront Defeat from cover to cover, plus a career-spanning set with some special virtual guests and surprises.   

“I’m looking forward to my first live show in a long time, and I’m happy to have it at Luna Star,” says Camacho. “It’s a place that has managed to survive this insanity but needs help to stay afloat.” He has performed there numerous times as a solo artist, both unaccompanied and with his Jim Camacho Band. All ages are welcome to the May 21 benefit concert, however, capacity is limited, and tickets will be available at the door on a sliding scale starting at $10. 

Camacho has been tirelessly working on music during the pandemic, finishing a full-length Americana record, a new acoustic album, and a record with his old band The Goods. He has just directed a production of his children’s musical Digging for Bones, for which he wrote the book, music, and lyrics. Also, Jim had been performing weekly livestream concerts on Facebook for a large part of 2020. 

Jim released “When the World Stops Spinning” in August of 2020, serving as testament to the need for resolve and resilience even in the worst of times. The song features musical support from Ana Cristina Cash, Dave Daeger, Ira Dean, Caitlin Evanson, Justin Johnson, RickLonow, Jodi Marr, Mike Webb and Justin Moses, and was produced by John Carter Cash at The Cash Cabin in Hendersonville, TN.  It followed “Going on Faith”, which was issued in the spring.

ABOUT JIM CAMACHO 

As co-founder (with his brother John) of the legendary Miami band The Goods, Camacho first attracted national attention through a series of albums that allowed the band to work with legendary producer Tom Dowd, sharing stages with the likes of PearlJam, The Smithereens, Cracker and Matthew Sweet, and reaping any number of accolades in the process. Since then, Camacho’s enjoyed a prolific solo career that’s included a number of memorable albums and EPs. Third Wheel Debut at Unbranded December 11

No frills rock and alternative covers band plays no frills Leah Arts District craft brewery and taproom

Miami, FL – November 23, 2020 – Unbranded have established themselves as mavericks in the microbrewing industry, eschewing trends and norms to become players in the game. Third Wheel have become known for their high-energy and straight-ahead approach to covering songs. The two entities will collaborate for the first time on Friday, December 11, 2020, beginning at 9 p.m. There is no cover and 21 and over are welcome to attend. Founded in 2017, Third Wheel’s repertoire consists of well-known 70s, 80s, and 90s rock and alternative staples, and unites a trio of musicians with a long musical history together. Opened in 2015, Unbranded’s 30-barrel brewhouse is situated in a 30,000 square foot building located in Hialeah’s LEAH Arts District, and seeks to bring unique beers to a burgeoning area. Gajano entered the world of art after fleeing an abusive relationship of many years. She turned to art as therapy, but little did she know that her it would lead her to painting professionally. She describes her style as a fusion of street art and “not so fine” art, jokingly dubbing it “Kinder-Urban”, because to her, it looks as if an urban Kindergartener painted it. Tand’s funky, high-energy rock and roll leans heavily on the collective’s improv skills. In the nearly two years that drummer Ali Nassar, guitarist Taylor Godsey, keyboardist Daryl Wolff, and bassist Peter Krause have been together as a group, they have established themselves as a band whose sum is greater than its parts. Of One Mind are Adelin Jabrayan on vocals and violin, and Cory Ricardy on drums and percussion. The eclectic duo’s music is an amalgamation of violin, electronic synth samples, female vocals, powerful conscious lyrics, intricate percussion and unique drum rhythms. The monthly marketplace that has been happening at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, 33135) for the last six months is only partially sticky. Mostly a well-oiled operation that offers the chance to shop some local wares, attendees can also listen to live music, sip on some of Little Havana’s craftiest cocktails, and chow on some delectable eats. This month, the party will be Halloween themed, and again be free and feature Birdman’s Clambake.

“Arroz Con Mango was conceived as a tribute to my Cuban/Mexican background,” says event founder Francis Weiner. “Miami is a melting pot, and as a result is un arroz con mango. I have always had a deep connection with my culture, music, and the arts, and I am an immense supporter of local vendors. ACM was my opportunity to bring something to the community where I could bring people together from different backgrounds to merge and enjoy themselves through art and music, all while supporting Miami locals.”

Electric Piquete Celebrate the Release of New Double A Side of Music at Ball & Chain October 20

Undaunted in its mission to record and release new music, the band has now partnered with the Music Preservation Project, the brainchild of Hialeah musician and producer Omar Garcia (Browner Sound / The Brand). The resulting works, a digital double A side of new music is now available and will be feted on October 20, 2019 at Ball & Chain during the venue’s monthly Pineapple Sunday event.

The bruising mid-tempo groove of “Still Reeling” and the blistering funk of “Fonquiviri” is now available exclusively through ElectricPiquete.Bandcamp.com on a pay-what-you-like basis. Proceeds from the sale of the music will benefit the Lotus House, an Overtown-based 501(c)3 organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children. The Music Preservation Project was developed by the team at Browner Sound to capture, through professionally recorded audio, a snapshot of the musical culture in Miami at this moment in time. ABOUT ELECTRIC PIQUETE

Electric Piquete is an award-winning Latin funk septet from Hialeah. Miami, FL – September 26, 2019 – South Carolina native Sean “Birdman” Gould has been a Miami music-maker, guitarist / bassist for hire, sound engineer, and bandleader for the better part of three decades now. His band Birdman’s Clambake, which has evolved through several lineup changes, has remained a South Florida mainstay for nearly as long. On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the group will celebrate its silver anniversary at Bar Nancy in Little Havana, beginning at 10 p.m. The rock and blues trio will be joined by some very special guests. The Nancy is located at 2007 SW 8th St, Miami, Florida 33135. There is no cover to attend; 21 and over are welcome.

“Most people have wives and or kids and celebrate their 25th anniversary,” says Gould, who is also Bar Nancy’s lead sound engineer. “I don’t have either of those; all I have is my music and my band. It has been a fun ride to provide a live music soundtrack for so many people and musicians in Miami.” Sean plays bass in the Nil Lara trio and is an in-demand reggae session guitarist. He also records music at his Mango Tree home studio in North Miami.

For the uninitiated, Clambake features virtuoso guitar playing backed by a powerful rhythm section. They serve up a mix of blues with classic rock and a side of kitsch. The band’s repertoire varies from show to show, includes a fair amount of improvisations, and ranges from 50s staples to classics from the 60s and 70s. They also feature a good number of originals, including the 2000 ode to the ladies of Hialeah “Oye Mamacita”, and “Beer, Biscuits and Gravy“, for which a video was filmed at the now-closed Tobacco Road’s upstairs cabaret.

Monchy Coruguedo, the band’s steady drummer for the last 12+ years, offers: “The band that truly is the ‘Clan of The Clam’ is truly the best party band. It’s also a band that takes the music seriously, but not itself. We always welcome fans to share an experience, not just to watch a gig, all under the captaincy of our fearless and non-feathered Bird.” The band also features Michael Mut on bass.

The Tonic is located at the Shops of Sunset Place, 5701 Sunset Dr, South Miami, FL 33143.

Open since this spring, The Tonic is run by Isabel “Kiki” Aguero, she of Transit Lounge fame, and features an emphasis not only on cocktails, wine, and craft beer, but live music, similar to her previous downtown Miami venue. An apothecary-style bar, the place strives to recapture the days when alcohol was viewed as medicinal, combining the traditional spirits with garden herbs, tinctures, and elixirs, using kombucha, coconut water, natural juices and seasonal fruits in their recipes.

The Yumbrella is a nod back to a similar 1970s venue, and is the brainchild of food truck entrepreneur and restaurateur Steve Simon. It features a plethora of cuisine options all under one roof, including Dr. Limon Express (Peruvian), Killer Melts (sandwiches and burgers), Say Cheeze (mac and cheese / bread bowls), as well as several others coming soon.

“We’re excited to play this amazing venue in what has become a hub for Miami nightlife,” says Michael Mut, co-founder, bassist and band leader. “The band truly appreciates Kiki, who has long been a champion for local music, and we love that there is something for everyone there. We invite everyone to come out for what is sure to be a night of great food, tasty beverages, and live entertainment.”

Electric Piquete’s music has been licensed by Lexus, and featured in the Emmy-winning Joe Cardona documentary Miami Boheme, plus an episode of CNNGo. The band is a veritable melting pot of influences that range from rock to jazz and spiced with everything in between: funk, fusion, old-school salsa, progressive and R&B. Though mostly instrumental, they feature vocals with three-part harmonies as well as some rapping on several numbers.

Electric Piquete also features co-founder Ed Rosado on drums, Chris Correoso (guitar), and Rich Dixon on trumpet and flugelhorn. The band’s sound is regularly augmented by Raymond Ayala on percussion and vocals, Charles Gardner on keyboards, and Robert Smiley on tenor sax and flute. They are getting ready to release a double A-side of new music.


The Tonic hosts Grammy and Latin Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban funk band PALO! for a monthly residency each first Saturday of the month, as well as Transit Lounge holdovers Juan Turros, Tony “Smurphio” Laurencio, and Fabi Patiño for a weekly JAM night on Mondays.  For more information, visit www.ElectricPiquete.com or call 786.426.2277.
