Guanabanas Hosts Dirty River Reggae Fest October 9

Jupiter, FL – September 20, 2016 – The federally-designated “Wild and Scenic” Loxahatchee River flowing through Jupiter is home to cypress swamp, freshwater marshes, mangrove swamp, countless bird, plant and fish species, and an annual reggae festival. On Sunday, October 9, 2016, beginning at 1 p.m.,  Guanabanas Island Restaurant and Bar (960 North Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477), located right on the Jupiter Inlet portion of the river, will host eight reggae / roots acts, and renown reggae music DJ and host Kulcha Shok. The show is free and open to all-ages.

The acts schedule to appear include: Through the Roots, Josh Heinrichs, Tropidelic, the Bryce Allyn Band, Sun–Dried Vibes, The Helmsmen, RootsShakedown, and Casey Turner. Guanabanas regularly presents a number of these acts throughout the year, but never all on the same bill. “This year promises to be our biggest and best Dirty River Reggae Fest yet,” says Guanabanas’ Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “I’m proud of the lineup we’ve managed to assemble for reggae and roots music fans, and am looking forward to the show.”

Through the Roots are from San Diego and are currently in the midst of their “Bloodshot Eyes” tour supporting a 2015 EP release titled Stipped and Exposed, along with the 2016 single “Miss Lovely”. Josh Heinrichs’ latest release “Good Vibes” enjoyed a smashing debut, simultaneously charting at # 1 on the iTunes, Amazon.com and Billboard Reggae charts.  The Springfield, MO native, pure reggae music artist – a Guanabanas favorite – frequently tours the U.S. with his four-piece band, this fall focusing on Florida, Texas and California. Tropidelic is another well-travelled, out-of-state act. Fort Mill, South Carolina’s Sun Dried Vibes is a power reggae / rock / funk / pop / alternative trio. Roots Shakedown is another West Palm Beach-based act featuring front man and sometime solo artist Brett Staska. Zach’s self-described “Island-infused, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Gospel-Ninja-Soul” is a product of an upbringing that was heavily influenced by a very musical family matriarch. “When I was a kid my grandma would play a lot of salsa and soca and make me get up and dance to it, so in a way this is me putting my own spin on all that and bringing those sounds into a whole new era.” The first single is called “Chevrolet” and it plays like a joyful soul / church revival held on a Caribbean beach.

Miami, FL – August 30, 2016 – In a continuing effort to raise funds and awareness of environmental issues, Love the Everglades Movement and Ploppy Palace Productions will host their annual benefit concert on Sunday, September 18, 2016. The event, which will be highlighted by musical performances by the Spam Allstars, Iko–Iko, the Magic City Hippies, the Baboons, the Nag Champayons, Army Gideon and others, will be held at Gramps (176 NW 24th Street, Miami, FL 33127), beginning at 2 p.m. All ages are welcome; admission is $10, children under 12 are free.

“I’m looking forward to this year’s benefit concert, which is shaping up to be our best yet, and is truly focused on giving back to the Everglades,” says Reverend Houston R. 18th Annual Afro Roots World Music Festival 9/3

Nigerian rhythms and Garifuna culture highlight the 18th annual event to be held at the North Beach Bandshell  

Miami, FL – August 16, 2016 – The 18th annual Afro Roots World Music Festival, one of the area’s longest-running concert series, will take place on Labor Day Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the historic North Beach Bandshell (7275 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139). Co-headliners Chicago Afrobeat Project and Honduran Garifuna artist Aurelio Martinez will be supported by locals Uma Galera plus DJ Moses. The Chicago Afrobeat Project has emerged as one of the genre’s most prominent and successful touring American acts, having mastered a sound that successfully weaves the uniqueness of the Chicago music scene with a distinct Nigerian style of music. The group previously collaborated with drummer Tony Allen (Afrobeat granddaddy Fela Kuti‘s drummer), and are currently promoting their latest release Nyash Up!, which is their fourth official album. It incorporates elements of hip-hop, orchestra-like musical arrangement, rock, jazz and funk.

Also featured at this year’s festival is Aurelio, who was born in the tiny coastal hamlet of Plaplaya on Honduras’ Caribbean coast. He may be one of the last generations to grow up steeped in the Garifuna tradition, which encompass the African and Caribbean Indian roots of his ancestors. Specifically, he is a descendant of a group of shipwrecked slaves who intermarried with local natives on the island of St. Vincent who were deported to the Central American coast in the late eighteenth century. The artist also served his community for years as a legislator.

Local openers Uma Galera are an experimental reggae band who play Latin-tinged grooves laced with rock, funk, ska and more to create what they call “world soul music”. Their fitting name means “one crowd”, as their bouts of musical improvisation inspire unity and grow good vibes. Spinning the best from the different eras and sub-genres of world music will be DJ Moses, a mainstay of the festival for more than ten years now.

Jupiter, FL – July 19, 2016 – Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar’s Noche Latina series rolls on this summer with the debut of one of Miami’s most psychedelic groove / jam bands on Friday, August 19, 2016, beginning at 9 p.m.Guanabanas (960 North Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) and Roots Music will present the Nag Champayons during the monthly celebration of Latin music and heritage in a free show open to those 21 and over. Dubbed after the incense they would constantly burn during early rehearsals, the Nags once won a “Best Band Name” award from the Miami New Times.

The sextet is currently promoting their latest release, “Rising Sounds of a Sinking City”, and are working on a follow-up single, which promises to be wildly psychedelic. They are hesitant to release the name of the new track for fear of “Brazilian shamanistic repercussions,” says bassist and founder EdCardona. “We’re excited to be taking our sound to another county, and to be spreading the Nag vibe in Jupiter.”

“As a live music and jam band fan, I’m truly looking forward to having the band perform here at Guanabanas,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “It didn’t take me long after listening to the band and watching performance videos during the vetting process to determine that they are special. Speaking of which, the Spam Allstars, the “Miami sound” genre-defining band who returned from a cultural exchange trip to South Africa just a couple of weeks ago, play Guanas this Saturday, July 23. Little Havana Hotspot Celebrates 81 Years with Three Day Music Festival Featuring Over 100 Musicians

 

Miami, FL  — August 2, 2016 — Ball & Chain, the notable and world famous live music venue is thrilled to present their second annual three-day music festival in honor of the venue’s 81st anniversary this Labor Day Weekend September 2016.  The historical Little Havana landmark originally opened its doors in September 1935 as a thriving live jazz music venue until it closed in the 1950s.  The retro Cuban speakeasy on Calle Ocho was reopened in September 2014 with an authentic Cuban flare meticulously redecorated in iconic 1950s Miami style under new ownership by Ben Bush, Zack Bush and Bill Fuller.

This is the second annual multi-day, music-driven event to celebrate the venue’s birthday.  The anticipated live performances will begin on Friday, September 2nd , and will go throughout the weekend until 3AM on Sunday featuring over 100 musicians and DJs.
“So much has happened during the last two years, it’s difficult to look back and pick out one outstanding moment,” offers co-owner Bill Fuller. “We’re very pleased that the locals and tourists alike have embraced Little Havana and Ball & Chain and thus created magic. We’re looking forward to another very exciting anniversary weekend.”

ABOUT BALL & CHAIN

Ball & Chain is a historic and world famous live music venue located at 1513 Southwest 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135 in the center of Little Havana. Electric Piquete Releases New Single “Cut Me Loose”

New funk / soul track a collaboration with singer-songwriter Maco Monthervil, concept video in production

Hialeah, FL – July 26, 2016 –  Today, Electric Piquete, two-time Miami New Times “Best Latin Band” award winners, released a new single called “Cut Me Loose”. It features the vocals of South Florida-based Maco Monthervil, one-half of the disbanded garage / soul duo The Lovers Key, and is now streaming on Spotify and is available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.com. The song is part of the band’s new “Singles Collection” release, which complies the six tracks issued individually during the last five years.

The track is a mid-tempo funk / soul number, composed and arranged by the band, and featuring the vocal melody and lyrics by Monthervil. Performance credits include: drummer and band co-founder Ed Rosado on drums and percussion, bassist / co-founder Michael Mut on bass, Chris Correoso – guitar, Rich Dixon, trumpet, and special guests Raymond Ayala (congas), Charles “Chip” Gardner on keyboards, and Robert Smiley on tenor sax. Rosado earned a co-production credit; Mut one for executive production.

“Cut Me Loose” was recorded from December 2015 through June 2016 at Red Door Studios in Little Haiti and co-produced by Jose Elias (Spam Allstars, the Nag Champayons, Cortadito). The song was mixed and mastered by Ferny Coipel (I Don’t Know, Humbert) at the Shack North Studios in Hialeah. Coipel has previously worked with the band, both in the studio recording, mixing and producing Electric Piquete’s 2011 self-titled debut, and as live sound engineer.

The band is currently working on a video for the single, under the direction of Gary Pettigrew from the Sunrise, FL-based production company Rush Media Studios. Pettigrew has done video production for Erica Mena and the Intro Music Group, and was mentored by J. Jesses Smith, who directed Breathe, produced Before I Self Destruct, and produced music videos for 50 Cent, Erick Sermon, DMX, Eve, Akon, Bizzy Bone and others.

The video will show clips of the band live and in studio, intermingled with a concept about Maco realizing his potential as an independent creative force. It will celebrate themes of individuality, freedom of expression, diversity and respect for all. The band, vocalist and video producer / director will be celebrating the release of the song and video Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Ball & Chain (1513 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135) during the August edition of the band’s monthly residency called #PiqueteSessions.

Seven bands to celebrate 51 years of the Grateful Dead at the Jupiter waterfront restaurant and live music venue

Jupiter, FL – July 12, 2016 – Grateful Dead founder, lead singer and guitaristJerry Garcia may have gone on to the great gig in the sky in 1995, but his music and memory live on in the hearts of Deadheads throughout the world. The life of the lord of psychedelia will be celebrated at Guanabanas Island Restaurant (960 N Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) on Sunday, July 31, 2016beginning at 1 p.m. during a special event presented by Roots Music, NewBelgium Brewing and Sailor Jerry, featuring Uproot Hootenany, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Reflections, Guavatron, Unlimited Devotion, The Southern Belles and the Funkin’ Grateful. There is no cover and the show is all-ages.

“Jerry’s birthday has always been a great day to celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead, as Jerry’s playing had such a huge influence on the musical community,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “We thought it would be a great day of music to bring together some incredible national acts to celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and all the great bands of that era. We appreciate the support of the local music community and our sponsors New Belgium and Sailor Jerry.”

Along with the birthday celebration, Guanabanas will also be celebrating New Belgium’s 25th Anniversary with a tap takeover featuring all of New Belgium’s iconic beers, including the seven Phat Tire and friends “Coolabeeration” beers. There will be tasting tents and beer specials on Guanabanas’ premier property. Cahur adds: “Blending the music of the Dead and great beer and rum, who could ask for more?”

Deerfield Beach’s Uproot Hootenany is a roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass and jam quartet who play the East Coast of Florida extensively. The band is a favorite at music festivals in and around the state, and will embark on a tour of Ireland later this summer. They have released three collections of music, including 2014’s Way Out. “The Greatest Story Ever Told” was the title track off of Dead member Bob Weir’s first solo album called Ace. What a better name for an offshoot group featuring some of the great artists of our local area put together only for this show? It will be hard to say who will sit in on this 60-minute set, but the elements of surprise will keep it very interesting.

Reflections is a Jerry Garcia tribute band whose focus is on the man’s music outside of the Grateful Dead. Featuring former members of the group Crazy Fingers, they cover the period of Garcia’s solo work from 1972 until the artist’s death in 1995. More details: www.facebook.com/ReflectionsOfJGB.

A fusion quintet from West Palm Beach, Guavatron blends “jam-tronica”, lounge, funk, jazz, reggae and rock into an infectious, original sound that travels well throughout the county. They list the Grateful Dead as their primary influence and keep a page on Bandcamp: guavatron.bandcamp.com.

Based in Delray Beach, Unlimited Devotion is not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band, but rather one that doesn’t emulate the band’s song book as much as interpret it. They express themselves through improvisation in the musical vein of jazz and funk. Their repertoire also includes staples by Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Cream, Jefferson Airplane and others.
