Stuart, FL – October 22, 2019 – The all-new dining and entertainment concept TideHouse Waterfront Restaurant will open its doors for dinner at 915 NW Flagler Ave, Stuart, FL 34994 on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Miami, FL – October 9, 2019 – Arroz Con Mango literally translates to rice with mango. Its Cuban colloquial meaning is a sticky, messy situation. The monthly marketplace that has been happening at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, 33135) for the last six months is only partially sticky. Mostly a well-oiled operation that offers the chance to shop some local wares, attendees can also listen to live music, sip on some of Little Havana’s craftiest cocktails, and chow on some delectable eats. This month, the party will be Halloween themed, and again be free and feature Birdman’s Clambake.

“Arroz Con Mango was conceived as a tribute to my Cuban/Mexican background,” says event founder Francis Weiner. “Miami is a melting pot, and as a result is un arroz con mango. I have always had a deep connection with my culture, music, and the arts, and I am an immense supporter of local vendors. ACM was my opportunity to bring something to the community where I could bring people together from different backgrounds to merge and enjoy themselves through art and music, all while supporting Miami locals.”

Electric Piquete Celebrate the Release of New Double A Side of Music at Ball & Chain October 20

Hialeah, FL – October 1, 2019 – Latin funk band Electric Piquete tried and failed to run a successful crowd-funding campaign in 2018. Undaunted in its mission to record and release new music, the band has now partnered with the Music Preservation Project, the brainchild of Hialeah musician and producer Omar Garcia (Browner Sound / The Brand). The resulting works, a digital double A side of new music is now available and will be feted on October 20, 2019 at Ball & Chain during the venue’s monthly Pineapple Sunday event.

The bruising mid-tempo groove of “Still Reeling” and the blistering funk of “Fonquiviri” is now available exclusively through ElectricPiquete.Bandcamp.com on a pay-what-you-like basis. Proceeds from the sale of the music will benefit the Lotus House, an Overtown-based 501(c)3 organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children. The Music Preservation Project was developed by the team at Browner Sound to capture, through professionally recorded audio, a snapshot of the musical culture in Miami at this moment in time. The Music Preservation Project instead trades recording hours for community service hours from the musicians.

“Clamstavaganza” at Bar Nancy Celebrates 25 Years of Birdman’s Clambake

Miami, FL – September 26, 2019 – South Carolina native Sean “Birdman” Gould has been a Miami music-maker, guitarist / bassist for hire, sound engineer, and bandleader for the better part of three decades now. His band Birdman’s Clambake, which has evolved through several lineup changes, has remained a South Florida mainstay for nearly as long. On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the group will celebrate its silver anniversary at Bar Nancy in Little Havana, beginning at 10 p.m. The rock and blues trio will be joined by some very special guests. “Most people have wives and or kids and celebrate their 25th anniversary,” says Gould, who is also Bar Nancy’s lead sound engineer. “I don’t have either of those; all I have is my music and my band. It has been a fun ride to provide a live music soundtrack for so many people and musicians in Miami.” Sean plays bass in the Nil Lara trio and is an in-demand reggae session guitarist. He also records music at his Mango Tree home studio in North Miami.

For the uninitiated, Clambake features virtuoso guitar playing backed by a powerful rhythm section. They serve up a mix of blues with classic rock and a side of kitsch. The band’s repertoire varies from show to show, includes a fair amount of improvisations, and ranges from 50s staples to classics from the 60s and 70s. They also feature a good number of originals, including the 2000 ode to the ladies of Hialeah “Oye Mamacita”, and “Beer, Biscuits and Gravy“, for which a video was filmed at the now-closed Tobacco Road’s upstairs cabaret.

Monchy Coruguedo, the band’s steady drummer for the last 12+ years, offers: “The band that truly is the ‘Clan of The Clam’ is truly the best party band. It’s also a band that takes the music seriously, but not itself. We always welcome fans to share an experience, not just to watch a gig, all under the captaincy of our fearless and non-feathered Bird.” The band also features Michael Mut on bass.

South Miami, FL – August 27, 2019 – Electric Piquete are known for their thirst-quenching Latin funk sounds and tasty Afro-Cuban rhythms. Now, the two-time Miami New Times’ “Best Latin Band” award winners are set to make their debut at The Tonic, housed within the Yumbrella Food Hall, on Saturday, September 14, 2019, beginning at 9:30 p.m. No cover, all ages are welcome. Open since this spring, The Tonic is run by Isabel “Kiki” Aguero, she of Transit Lounge fame, and features an emphasis not only on cocktails, wine, and craft beer, but live music, similar to her previous downtown Miami venue. An apothecary-style bar, the place strives to recapture the days when alcohol was viewed as medicinal, combining the traditional spirits with garden herbs, tinctures, and elixirs, using kombucha, coconut water, natural juices and seasonal fruits in their recipes.

The Yumbrella is a nod back to a similar 1970s venue, and is the brainchild of food truck entrepreneur and restaurateur Steve Simon. It features a plethora of cuisine options all under one roof, including Dr. Limon Express (Peruvian), Killer Melts (sandwiches and burgers), Say Cheeze (mac and cheese / bread bowls), as well as several others coming soon.

Hialeah Fest Returns to Churchill’s Pub on September 7

Music festival to again showcase area talent and raise funds for Manos Internacional, a Miami-based global non-profit that funds educational programs

Little Haiti, FL – August 13, 2019 – The City of Progress’ beloved music festival is back after a lengthy absence. Spurned by Chuchill’s Pub mainstay Rat Bastard and timed to coincide with the local music Mecca’s 40th anniversary celebration, event founders and organizers / Hialeah natives Ferny Coipel and Tony Landa (Humbert) decided the time was right to bring Hialeah Fest back. Set to take place on Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., the event will feature more than 20 bands on three stages, which will again be known as the Jupiña, Materva and Malta Hatuey stages. Cover is $7 and proceeds will go towards the 501(c)3 Manos Internacional, founded by another Hialeah boy made good, John Alvarez.

“Until we pressed pause, Hialeah Fest was the longest-running South Florida music festival,” says Coipel.  “Over the years we had so many people asking time after time ‘When is the fest coming back?’, ‘Is Hialeah Fest happening this year?’, ‘Is it happening this year?’, and it was just on indefinite hiatus. I am glad that we are able to put this back together for the kids of Manos, and the arts community.” Coipel plays keyboards / guitar and is a founding member of Humbert, which is one of the festival’s main acts and has been for years, and I Don’t Know, which anchored the event prior to Humbert forming in 1999.

“We’re only doing this because Rat made us do it,” offers Landa. “He just kept harassing us until we finally agreed to do it. Hialeah Fest existed all those years in part because of Dave Daniels and Churchill’s, and now it will exist at least one more time because of Rat.” Landa plays bass and is also a founding member of Humbert; he is also the bassist for I Don’t Know. In addition, he runs the outstanding local music blog Dig Under Rock, which is dedicated to promoting and documenting local and national music in South Florida, and is Hialeah Fest’s official media sponsor.  

Featured acts include: Afrobeta, Beyond the Boundary, The Brand, Brute, Electric Piquete, Electric Supply Company, H -OM, Humbert, Medina, Nekromaniak, the Nag Champayons Present: Psychedelic Jazz Practice, Stereo Joule, Dama Vicke, and more to be announced.

Hialeah Fest was founded in 1994, and was an annual occurrence until 2013, when Landa bowed out due to a family health issue. Coipel did not think it was appropriate to carry it on without him. However, this year is a different story. “The climate is right,” he says. “Things have aligned.”

Jim Camacho Celebrates Adventures in Songwriting and EP Release August 24

Miami, FL – July 24, 2019 – Adventures in Songwriting is equal parts workshop, talk show, and new music generator. Award-winning singer / songwriter Jim Camacho will showcase all of the artists featured on Season 1 of the web series during a special evening of live music at the Mandelstam Theater in South Miami on Saturday, August 24, 2019, beginning at 8 p.m.  All ages are welcome, and there is free parking available.

“I’m extremely proud of all the fearless creative energy that went into each and every episode, and the new songs that were written,” says Camacho, who conceived AIS as a vehicle to highlight the songwriting side of South Florida; Juan Davila directed the series. “We are pleased to be able to share our creations in a theatrical setting with the wonderful talents of Paul (Tei) from Mad Cat Live steering the ship.” Jim has been busy with his own songwriting over the last few years, bouncing between Miami and Nashville, TN as part of the AbFab publishing company’s stable of writers.

The series explores songwriting through the lens of an informal, sit-down story-telling session, allowing Jim and his guests to uncover the mystery of writing a song. They share stories about their path in music, and what led them to want to become a songwriter. By the end of each episode, Jim and company write a new original song using Camacho’s tried and true “30 minutes or die” hourglass-timed technique, honed during his time with The Goods.

In addition to the house band consisting of the Camacho Brothers and others, plus special guests, the following acts are slated to appear:

The band will randomly choose one of the entries and write a song on stage during the 15 to 20 minute intermission. The brand new song will be performed at the end of the show.

ABOUT JIM CAMACHO

Miami native Jim Camacho is a prolific songwriter, actor, and theatrical composer. His initial foray into writing musicals began with Fools’ Paradise, which was directed and choreographed by the acclaimed Jonathan Cerullo. The show ran as a full production in Miami and played to sold out workshops in New York. He has collaborated with Sesame Street and Disney veteran Noel MacNeal on several productions including Mouse King, which has become a South Florida holiday tradition, enjoying annual sell out performances each year since premiering in 2013.

Camacho co-founded the standout group The Goods, which was active during the 1990s, worked with legendary producer Tom Dowd, won the prestigious “Album of the Year” Florida Jammy award, and reached #1 on the Billboard Florida Radio & Record charts with their single “I’m Not Average”. Their high-energy live show, outstanding musicianship and relentless touring led them to sign their second recording contract, this time with Polygram Records, and be featured in a VH1 documentary. The Goods shared the stage with Pearl Jam, The Smithereens, Cracker and MatthewSweet, among others.

Jim spent part of 2018 writing for artists such as Johnny Reid, Jason Morton and the ChesapeakeSons, and Ana Christina Cash, as part of a stable of Nashville-based AbFab publishing house songwriters. Camacho is also working on a full-length solo project, his first full-length since the critically-lauded Beachfront Defeat, as well as collaborating with brother John on new music. The duo issued the “Marshmallow / Vera” double A side on Record Store Day, 2019.
