Multi-Genre Musical March Madness at Guanabanas

Run of three shows March 16 to 20 to showcase musical diversity offered at the Jupiter waterfront venue, one of which celebrates St. Patrick’s Day

Jupiter, FL – March 5, 2019 – March is known for the coming of spring, a major college basketball tournament, and the celebration of a popular Irish saint. At Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar, the month will also serve as a testament to the incredible range of music offered up to fans, particularly the stretch of shows planned for mid-March. It includes the debut of the Balkun Brothers on the 16th, a special Exmag St. Patrick’s Day 4 p.m. show, and the return of Roosevelt Collier on the 20th. The popular waterfront venue is located at 960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477; all performances are free and open to those 21 and over.

“The third week of the month is going to be pure fire and we’re excited to be presenting this wide a range of music,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “The Balkun Brothers are a duo of seriously talented siblings, Exmag’s sound is very unique to say the least, and Roosevelt ‘The Doctor’, is very well known and loved around these parts.” Cahur founded Roots Music, Inc. more than 20 years ago, which has allowed him to successfully manage rock and reggae acts, and produce / promote local and regional concerts. He is the lead sound engineer and books all of the live music at Guanabanas; Matt is also an accomplished songwriter and guitarist.

An internationally touring rock n’ roll band, the Balkun Brothers hail from Hartford, CT. Their sound is equal parts rock, blues and metal forged by older brother Steve’s custom-built baritone and resonator guitars, and younger brother Nick’s relentless drum pounding. They are touring in support of their new release on the French imprint Dixiefrog Records called Devil on TV, which was recorded in part at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, TN and produced by the heavy-hitting rock engineer Steve Albini. Minnesota hip-hop / jazz trio Exmag will perform a special early set on Sunday, March 17, beginning at 4 p.m. The band’s brand of funk evokes the Twin Cities’ musical godfather Prince, but breaks new ground with its smooth electronic originality. EDM Chicago insists that “there is nothing less than real about these fellas”, and the Huffington Post said of their music: “familiar as it is unique, reaching across genres and audiences”. Turnout at Guanabanas is always high for Roosevelt Collier, as his take on soul, funk and R&B is sonically and hip shakingly appealing. Guanabanas Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary December 26

Award-winning waterfront venue begins second decade of serving the Jupiter community with all-day specials and a triple-header of live music

Jupiter, FL – November 27, 2018 – Ten years in the restaurant business is quite an amazing achievement. Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar is much more than just a restaurant, however. For a decade, the popular waterfront venue located at 960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477, near the Jupiter Inlet and on the east bank of the Loxahatchee River, has not only been presenting the best live local, regional and national acts, but also giving back to the community, all while racking up some impressive awards.

“A commitment to providing our clients the highest quality ingredients, incredible support from our local community plus a family-friendly atmosphere has been the key to our success,” says Vice President Jon Sullivan. “We intend to continue to offer the best fresh from Florida seafood, the finest entertainment, and to keep Guanabanas a great place for people to come hang out with friends and family.”

Clients can take advantage of food and drink specials the entire day after Christmas as part of the celebration, including $3 bottle beers and well drinks, $6 signature drinks, Fat Cubans, and old school burritos, as well as 50-cent wings and clams. There will be live entertainment by The String Assassins, Clement Aubrey and One Tribe, and Moska Project from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight. Admission is free; 21 and over are welcome from 9 p.m. onward.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure programming  the music here for the last 10 years,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “I’m looking forward to the celebration and to 10 more great years.” Cahur is the founder of Roots Music, which manages acts, and produces and promotes local and regional concerts. He not only designed the sound system at Guanabanas, but is the lead sound engineer and books all of the live music at the venue.

From its humble beginnings as a one-time sandwich shop / kayak rental place in 2004-2005, Guanabanas has grown into a local mainstay. Building on the “Old Florida” look and feel, owners President Chad Van Boven, along with his wife Jeannie, created a sense of community, first hosting a charity-driven “Therapy Thursdays” event that evolved into the recurring Give Back Thursday, which has helped many local charities, and raising more than $180k during the last half-dozen years.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Jupiter live music fans will be treated to a double header of the rock / reggae touring bands known as Tropidelic and Bumpin Uglies. Tropidelic is six-piece funk / reggae / rock / hip hop from the East Side of Cleveland, OH.  The year 2017 saw the release of the band’s latest, Heavy is The Head, which hit the top spot on the iTunes reggae charts upon release. They have shared the stage with and supported such acts as 311, Slightly Stoopid, The Dirty Heads, Pepper and TheWailers. Tropidelic have hit the festival circuit heavily recently, playing Electric Forest,the Werk Out Festival, the Warped Tour, SXSW, Reggae Rise Up, and Cali Roots. Electric Piquete Plays Noche Latina October 26

Jupiter, FL – October 15, 2018 – The band that kicked off the successful Noche Latina series at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar three years ago is back to celebrate a very special milestone. Electric Piquete – two-time Miami New Times’ “Best Latin Band” award winners – will perform one two-hour set on Friday, October 26, 2018, beginning at 9 p.m. Guanabanas is located at 960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477, directly on the east bank of the Loxahatchee River. The show is free and open to those 21 and over.

“Electric Piquete is a cornerstone band for Noche Latina, having played here numerous times during what’s become a very popular event for Roots and Guanabanas,” says Talent Buyer Matt Cahur. “I am proud to welcome them back and continue to grow the series as it rolls on in its monthly trek.” Cahur is the head of Roots Music, which specializes in music management, production and promotions of local and regional artists and concerts. He wears many hats, being the lead sound engineer at Guanabanas.

Electric Piquete have fully incorporated Caribbean rhythms into their sound, covering and recording tracks by standout Latin artists such as Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria, Cheo Feliciano. They revel in their Hispanic roots and have even written songs about Jose Marti and Cuban beaches. Their music has already been licensed by Lexus, and featured in the Emmy-winning Joe Cardona documentary Miami Boheme, plus an episode of CNNGo.

The band features co-founder Ed Rosado on drums / vocals, co-founder Michael Mut on bass / vocals, Chris Correoso (guitar), and Rich Dixon on trumpet and flugelhorn. Jupiter, FL – September 20, 2018 – One of South Florida’s most popular roots and reggae festivals returns to Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar for a sixth straight year, this time featuring one of the genre’s most popular and recognizable names, Julian Marley. This event, sponsored by Corona Light, will also feature SOWFLO, Moska Project, Artikal Sound System, Spred the Dub, and Roots Shakedown, and will be hosted by Lance–O from Kulcha Shok. As a son of Bob Marley, Julian is well-known to fans throughout the world. SOWFLO are South West Florida’s rock / reggae musical torchbearers. South Florida’s Spred the Dub are known as purveyors of “Good Time Reggae”, which essentially combines elements of soul, funk and R&B over a foundation of rocksteady, ska and roots reggae. Based in Palm Beach, they are regulars throughout the West Palm and Fort Lauderdale reggae scene. Their latest release is called Friends and Enemies, which is their third release overall. Monthly Latin music series returns with two Miami-based bands – one Cuban folk and the other Afro-Galactic / tropidelic funk – plus a world music DJ

Jupiter, FL – August 6, 2018 – Noche Latina, the monthly Latin music series at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 North Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477), returns on Saturday, August 25, 2018, beginning at 4 p.m.  and will feature Cortadito (Cuban folk), the Nag Champayons (Afro-Galactic / Tropidelic), and DJ Ephniko (multi-cultural tunes). Experience the best South Florida-based Latino music acts in an enchanting, outdoor setting on the Loxahatchee River. No cover, all ages welcome to the early show; 21 and over after 9 p.m.

“The double bill of of Cortadito and the Nag Champayons is an excellent mix that our loyal Latin music fans very much enjoy,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “The combination of Cuban folk and spaced-out Miami funk is a potent one, and adding Ephniko to the mix means we are in for quite a flavorful afternoon and evening.” Cahur is the head of Roots Music, Inc., which for 20 years has offered music management, production and promotions services out of Jupiter. Cahur is also the master sound engineer at Guanabanas.

From inception, Cortadito’s focus has been performing the traditional Cuban music of the early 20th century: the Son Montuno, Guaracha, Boleros, Nengon, and Bolero Son styles. This dynamic ensemble brings the listener back to a time when Trio Matamoros, or Ignacio Piniero ruled the Cuban music world, and when Son Montuno was influencing music throughout the globe. Miami’s Afro Galactic / Tropidelic funksters the Nag Champayons blend African, Caribbean and North American influences into a unique and extremely danceable sound. Their most recent release is the single and video for “Brazilian LSD”, which served as a follow up to 2015’s masterful Rising Sounds of a Sinking City, a darkly serious and ominous 21-minute environmentally-conscious theme. Ephniko is the front man for the Nag Champayons, but he is also a very in-demand world music selector. The Baranquilla, Colombia-born MC approaches crowds as a rhythm shaman looking to heal their stress and sadness by taking them on a journey. 3rd Annual Guanabanas Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash Set for Sunday, July 29

All-day celebration of the music of the Grateful Dead and its legendary leader to feature seven acts

Jupiter, FL – July 10, 2018 – Jerry Garcia once said of the Grateful Dead: “We’re like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.” There must be hundreds of licorice aficionados in and near Jupiter given the reaction to and popularity of the first two Jerry Garcia Birthday Bashes at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477). This year’s event is being sponsored by Boulevard Brewing Company and Suerte Tequila.

“We’re excited to be once again paying tribute to the godfather of the jam band scene with a celebration that includes seven of the best South Florida jam bands around,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. The music begins at noon, there is no cover, and the show is all-ages. There will also be vendors selling jewelry, accessories and Dead merch. There will be a Boulevard craft beer tent, as well as a Suerte Tequila tent.

Based in Delray Beach, Unlimited Devotion has played in each of the previous two Guanabanas Jerry bashes. UD, very popular throughout the U.S. and especially South Florida, are not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band. They don’t emulate the band’s song book as much as interpret it, expressing themselves through improvisation. Band interests include: jazz, table tennis, team snoring and synchronized yawning. Equal parts fruit, band and transforming mechanized battle robot from another planet, Guavatron is a fusion four-piece based in West Palm Beach. With emphasis on improvisation, Guavatron creates a fresh sound at every show while keeping their roots of dance, rock, electronica, and funk involved. The Daniel Heitz Band is the first of four newcomers to the party. Led by their guitar prodigy namesake, the Orlando-based trio combines blues, soul, bluesrock and funk to form a Southern-fried, axe-driven powerhouse. Uproot Hootenany describe themselves as “roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass, whiskey-fueled fun” and are based in Deerfield Beach. The four- piece band features some of South Florida’s top string instrument players, love pickin’ and grinnin’, and play originals and inventive covers by everyone from The Rolling Stones to Johnny Cash. The Legacy Orchestra Collective is a festival-style reggae / funk / soul jam band made up of numerous members from local bands that come together to perform original compositions along with many favorites of any era. Delray Beach is home to Spiral Light, another Jerry bash newbie. A Grateful Dead tribute act, the band’s name is fittingly taken from a line in the outstanding Dead tune “Terrapin Station”. The two reggae solo artists who were once bandmates in the legendary outfit put out several full-lengths together in Jah Roots, and have since collaborated on three other releases. Issued May 20, 2018, the new EP called Made in California also features appearances by Inna Vision and Preston Lee (Ezzrah). Josh and SkilliJah will perform live at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 N Hwy A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) with special guests Artikal Sound System May 31, 2018, beginning at 8 p.m. No cover, 21 and over welcome.

“We usually reserve Thursday nights for special occasions and this certainly is one of them,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “Josh and Skillinjah together is pure musical fire – add the guys from Artikal to this explosive combination and we have the makings of a very special night indeed.” Cahur owns and operates Roots Music, Inc., a Jupiter-based, 20+ year music management and promotions company that handles the live music bookings at Guanabanas; he’s also the venue’s lead sound engineer.

Creating reggae music since 2001, Springfield, Missouri-based Josh Heinrichs is not only a successful reggae singer / songwriter, but he’s also a music label head (GanJah Records which he runs along with wife Kaytee), an in-demand touring musician, having toured the entire U.S. multiple times, and hosts is own annual music festival in Springfield called Reggae Fest. Josh has shared the stage with legends such as Ziggy, Stephen, and Damian Marley, George Clinton, The Wailers, 311, Slightly Stoopid and many more. Heinrichs has been featured at California Roots, TX Reggae Fest, Chicago Reggae Fest as well as Wakarusa, Summercamp, Gathering of the Vibes and many others. His release Good Vibes 2016 topped the Billboard Reggae album chart.

Born Kyle Bell in Houston, TX, SkillinJah is also known as Baddaflexx. He became hooked on reggae soon after discovering Peter Tosh’s Equal Rights record at age 11. By the spring of 2000, he had begun performing on the Jamaican dancehall circuit, eventually releasing a single on VP Records. Not long after exiting Jah Roots in 2006, he founded the NYC reggae band 45 Shootout. He’s recorded more than 200 singles and worked with the notable producers Dean Frasier and Donahue Baker. SkillinJah is a regular on the reggae touring circuit from Jamaica to New York to Hawaii.

South Florida-based Artikal Sound System is a multicultural group unites American, Jamaican and Hispanic reggae culture. The perform nationally and internationally and have already collaborated with Redlyte, The Abbysinians, Apple Gabriel of Israel Vibration, and Biggz General, and shared the stage with Pepper, Dirty Heads, The Wailers, Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Less Than Jake, The Aggrolites, and Jesse Royal. Their last three released have hit the #2 position on Billboard’s Reggae chart.
