All-day celebration of the music of the Grateful Dead and its legendary leader to feature six acts

Jupiter, FL – June 26, 2019 – In what has become a popular, annual tradition for Roots Music, Inc. and Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477), the Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash will take place on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Beginning promptly at noon, the event features six incredible bands all celebrating the life and musical spirit of The Grateful Dead leader and his music. This year’s event is being sponsored by Cigar City Brewing Company. It is free and open to the public.

“We are incredibly excited to once again be hosting our Jerry Garcia Bash,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “While not all bands on the line up are Jerry or Dead tribute bands, expect everyone to celebrate the music of the era and embellish upon the music that Jerry brought to the table over the years.” There will also be vendors selling jewelry, accessories and Dead merch.

Unlimited Devotion was conceived in Miami on 2012, and is now dually based in the Tampa / St. Petersburg area and the Magic City. UD has played in all three of the previous Guanabanas Jerry tributes and are a very popular throughout the U.S. and especially South Florida. They are not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band, as they don’t emulate the band’s song book. More so, they interpret it, expressing themselves through improvisation. Guavatron is one part fruit, one part band, and one part transforming mechanized battle robot from another planet. Based in West Palm Beach, they place an emphasis on improvisation, creating a fresh sound at every show while keeping their roots of dance, rock, electronica, and funk involved. Spiral Light hails from Delray Beach and features the virtuoso guitar playing of Joni Bottari (formerly of Girl Jerry). A Dead tribute band, they played last year’s Jerry Bash, which served as their Guanabanas debut as well. Their band name comes from the Dead song “Terrapin Station”; they are also influenced by Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan. CBDB is a progressive rock, jam-band from Alabama and their music is spreading from the Southeast across the nation like wildfire. Defining a newfound southern blend of joyous and progressive rock ‘n roll, they channel a sonic mix of soulful vocals and virtuosic musicianship with smart, tasteful songwriting. The Heavy Pets are a funked up rock and roll band from South Florida who are returning to the Jerry Bash after headlining the 2nd annual affair in 2017. Relix Magazine has called them “a living, breathing force of nature”, and they embody this musically by constantly touring the State of Florida and the United States. Formed in 2018 in South Florida, TAND means well-sunned skin and musically represents a fusion of rock, funk and soul. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.” There must be hundreds of licorice aficionados in and near Jupiter given the reaction to and popularity of the first two Jerry Garcia Birthday Bashes at Guanabanas Island Restaurant & Bar (960 North Highway A1A Jupiter, FL 33477). This year’s event is being sponsored by Boulevard Brewing Company and Suerte Tequila.

“We’re excited to be once again paying tribute to the godfather of the jam band scene with a celebration that includes seven of the best South Florida jam bands around,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. The Daniel Heitz Band is the first of four newcomers to the party. Led by their guitar prodigy namesake, the Orlando-based trio combines blues, soul, bluesrock and funk to form a Southern-fried, axe-driven powerhouse. Uproot Hootenany describe themselves as “roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass, whiskey-fueled fun” and are based in Deerfield Beach. The four- piece band features some of South Florida’s top string instrument players, love pickin’ and grinnin’, and play originals and inventive covers by everyone from The Rolling Stones to Johnny Cash. The Legacy Orchestra Collective is a festival-style reggae / funk / soul jam band made up of numerous members from local bands that come together to perform original compositions along with many favorites of any era. Delray Beach is home to Spiral Light, another Jerry bash newbie. A Grateful Dead tribute act, the band’s name is fittingly taken from a line in the outstanding Dead tune “Terrapin Station”. Flint Blade is a one-man Chapman stick / vocal performer. His brand of ambient, beat-driven psychedelia with folk, jazz and dub reggae influences make him extraordinarily unique. Eight acts scheduled for all-day celebration of the music the Grateful Dead and its legendary leader

Jupiter, FL – July 5, 2017 – Millions of Grateful Dead fans probably agree with what Bob Dylan once said of Jerry Garcia: “he really had no equal”. The hundreds that showed up and enjoyed Guanabanas Island Restaurant’s tribute to the man in 2016 likely do as well.

This sentiment carries on once again this year, as the 2nd Annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash will happen Sunday, July 30 at the Jupiter waterfront restaurant and live music venue located at 960 N Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477.  There will be eight bands: headliners The Heavy Pets along with Unlimited Devotion, Electric Kif, Guavatron, The Southern Belles, Uproot Hootenany, Reflections (A Tribute to Jerry Garcia), and Girl Jerry. The music begins at noon, there is no cover, and the show is all-ages.

The event is sponsored by Bells Brewery will feature great beers from the Bells lineup and a Bells tasting tent featuring unique beers from the brewery. Typical to most Dead shows, the Guanabanas stoned path walkways will host vendors selling artist merchandise and all things artfully Dead.

“The response to our Jerry event last year was overwhelmingly positive and we are excited to be celebrating Garcia and the Dead once again this year,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “We are bringing back several of the artists from last year’s event and have added some incredible new artists to the lineup this year. We’re really looking forward to continuing our new musical tradition in 2017 and beyond.”

The Heavy Pets mix funk and rock with a heavy dose of improvisation, bringing their seasoned, road-tested sound back to Guanabanas with an all-Dead set they are calling “Heavy Dead”. They have played more than 1,200 shows throughout the States since forming in 2005, and are getting ready to release their fourth full-length album this year. Learn more at www.theheavypets.com.

Unlimited Devotion, the first of five acts to be invited back to Guanabanas’ Jerry bash, is based in Delray Beach, but is not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band. They don’t emulate the band’s song book as much as interpret it, expressing themselves through jazz and funk improv. Miami’s Electric Kif is a tight four-piece “post-nuclear” jazz / rock / fusion touring band. They originally started out as a jam band for sidemen and session musicians to perform together, but over time began to develop a sound of their own. Guavatron is a fusion five-piece based in West Palm Beach that emphasizes fusing genres together with seamless transitions and evolving improvisation into a well-travelled, infectious and original sound. The Southern Belles hail from Richmond, VA and since 2011 has been playing a high-octane mix of Southern psychedelic rock and roll. They crisscross the country, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals each year. They are still promoting their latest release, Close to Sunrise (2015) extensively throughout the U.S., and also were a part of the Jerry jam at Guanabanas in 2016. Uproot Hootenany calls Deerfield Beach home base. They specialize in a blend of roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass, and tour Florida’s East Coast extensively. UH, the fourth of five originals from the 2016 event, love pickin’ and grinnin’, and reinventing covers by everyone from The Rolling Stones to Johnny Cash. Featuring former members of the group Crazy Fingers, Reflections is a Jerry Garcia tribute band whose focus is on the man’s music outside of the Grateful Dead. Their focus continues to be the period of Garcia’s solo work from 1972 until the artist’s death in 1995, with a little funk on the side. They also took part in the original birthday bash in 2016. Seven bands to celebrate 51 years of the Grateful Dead at the Jupiter waterfront restaurant and live music venue

Jupiter, FL – July 12, 2016 – Grateful Dead founder, lead singer and guitaristJerry Garcia may have gone on to the great gig in the sky in 1995, but his music and memory live on in the hearts of Deadheads throughout the world. The life of the lord of psychedelia will be celebrated at Guanabanas Island Restaurant (960 N Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477) on Sunday, July 31, 2016beginning at 1 p.m. during a special event presented by Roots Music, NewBelgium Brewing and Sailor Jerry, featuring Uproot Hootenany, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Reflections, Guavatron, Unlimited Devotion, The Southern Belles and the Funkin’ Grateful. There is no cover and the show is all-ages.

“Jerry’s birthday has always been a great day to celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead, as Jerry’s playing had such a huge influence on the musical community,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “We thought it would be a great day of music to bring together some incredible national acts to celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and all the great bands of that era. We appreciate the support of the local music community and our sponsors New Belgium and Sailor Jerry.”

Along with the birthday celebration, Guanabanas will also be celebrating New Belgium’s 25th Anniversary with a tap takeover featuring all of New Belgium’s iconic beers, including the seven Phat Tire and friends “Coolabeeration” beers. There will be tasting tents and beer specials on Guanabanas’ premier property. Cahur adds: “Blending the music of the Dead and great beer and rum, who could ask for more?”

Deerfield Beach’s Uproot Hootenany is a roots, folk, Celtic, bluegrass and jam quartet who play the East Coast of Florida extensively. The band is a favorite at music festivals in and around the state, and will embark on a tour of Ireland later this summer. They have released three collections of music, including 2014’s Way Out. “The Greatest Story Ever Told” was the title track off of Dead member Bob Weir’s first solo album called Ace. What a better name for an offshoot group featuring some of the great artists of our local area put together only for this show? It will be hard to say who will sit in on this 60-minute set, but the elements of surprise will keep it very interesting.
