Humbert Celebrate “Perfect Day” Remake Vinyl Release November 5 at Bar Nancy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Venerable Hialeah rock / pop quartet issue cover of Lou Reed staple on Y&T Records for Record Store Day 2022, the first 7” in the band’s two-decades plus history

Hialeah, FL, October 18, 2022 – They’re not your average indie art rock band. In fact, Humbert, proud torchbearers for the under-heralded Hialeah original rock scene have survived one global pandemic, three major lineup changes, and the comings and goings of more than a dozen iconic local music establishments.

Now, they are doing something for the first time in their near 25-year history: releasing a song on vinyl. A collaboration with long-time Miami music champion Rich Ulloa and his legendary Y&T Records label, the new release is a cover of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” and will be available on Record Store Day 2022. Fans can preorder the single online through the band’s Bandcamp page

Humbert recorded the song they had been kicking around for a few years live pre-pandemic at Browner Sound studios’ original Hialeah location, with long-time friends and collaborators Omar Garcia and Juan Oña behind the console. Backed with the band’s original song “You Said”, the 7” single will be released as a super-limited, deluxe, hand-painted unit featuring gorgeous cover art by New York Times bestselling illustrator Karen Keesler.

“’Perfect Day’ was a song Humbert had to play and perform,” says founding member / drummer / vocalist Izo Besares.” There was no choice, really. It was an organic endeavor, an inevitable happening. Every member loved it, collectively, and for independent and personal reasons, too.” Ulloa heard the band performing it and was immediately convinced that is special. Y&T has also worked with The MavericksFor SquirrelsMary KarlzenHoly TerrorsCharlie Pickett, and Sweet Lizzie Project.

Formed in the late 1990s from the ashes of another legendary Hialeah band I Don’t Know, Humbert started as a quintet and issued a critically acclaimed self-titled full length in 1999. Closing ranks as a quartet, the band released Plant the Trees Closer Together in 2003, and Floating Legion of Joy in 2006. Before 2013’s Se Reparan Todos they began issuing stand alone and holiday singles, beginning with 2011’s “On Christmas Day“, and continues to this day and for the benefit of Manos Internacional, a nonprofit dedicated to providing enriching educational, cultural, and youth development programs to children in poor, remote areas.

Bar Nancy first opened in Little Havana in 2017. The bar’s theme is colonial-era nautical, and its main bar mimics the galley of the famous namesake ship. It features a weekly karaoke night (Sundays), a monthly open mic event, and several recurring themed nights. The bar offers a sizable selection of draft and canned beers, as well as specialty cocktails and gourmet food by the vendor One Hot Dish. An outside patio offers ample seating and a smoking area. Location: 2007 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135.

Humbert currently features Besares, Ferny Coipel on guitar, keyboards, and vocals, Tony Landa on bass and vocals, and Jorge Hernandez on guitar and vocals. Doors open on November 5 at 8 p.m., and the music by opening band Stillblue will begin at 9:30 p.m. Free show, 21 and over welcome.

Alexa Lash Releases “Already Not the Same” January 7, Celebrates at Bar Nancy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artist transforms emotion into ear candy for the pandemic era in new release out Friday

Miami, FL – January 4, 2022Miami-born singer-songwriter Alexa Lash has written and recorded another collection of songs that serves as a four-song experience that takes listeners on a journey through joy, nostalgia, sadness, and empowerment. Already Not the Same hits all streaming platforms on Friday, January 7, 2022. Lash will be celebrating the release that night with a special party at Bar Nancy in Little Havana (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL 33135) beginning at 9 p.m.

Lash has found comfort in emotion with her new release, which is a follow up to her debut EP Sage and Wine. “It’s hard to believe how much has changed in just a year,” she says. “I have so much music I want to share with the world, and this is just the beginning. I hope everyone hears just how much love I put into the music.”

The first single is called “Baked Apples”, and it delves into nostalgia and the power of love and sensory memory, and is a reminder that when someone is gone, their memory is always with you throughout the rest of your life. It is out now – click here to listen.

“Stay Over” is a gooey pop delve into romance, and serves as a romp into expressing our tendency towards the need for companionship. It’s about telling someone you like them, openly and confidently. And not being afraid to be “that person” who makes the first move.

“Facing Reality” is an emotional trek through unrequited love. It is about expectation, hope, and the reality that must be faced when feelings aren’t reciprocated. This harsh truth is the crux and inspiration for the emotion that drives not just the lyrics, but how Lash sings it on the EP and in person.

“History” is a fun, flavorful track inspired by confidence and self-assuredness. It’s playful, embeds elements of spoken word/rap, trumpet provided by Julian Cifuentes, and touches of Spanish guitar by Ferny Coipel, who produced and engineered the set at the Shack North in Hialeah, FL.

Overall, Lash’s music is a self-reflective kind of folksy, a tone likened to bluesy, her hooks sticky and catchy, with a touch of soul, and drizzled with a smidgen of pop. It is all at once memorable, insightful and intimate, beautifully-crafted, and entirely original.

Marcel Salas, who is the lead guitarist in Lash’s live band Alexa & The Old Fashioneds, opens the evening with a solo set Friday; he plays the drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, and piano on the recordings. The EP was mastered by Zach Ziskin. The cover art for the lead single is equally as personal and was designed by Lash’s former bandmate and Miami-based artist, Johann C. Muñoz.

Alexa has a long-running residency at Bar Nancy – catch her there every other first Friday and every third Wednesday. High resolution photos and interviews available upon request.

Birdman’s Clambake Celebrate the Release of Build a Bridge at Bar Nancy December 18

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Miami rock and roll band issues new collection of songs recorded in the mid-2000s, fete the new album at the Little Havana craft cocktail joint

Miami, FL – December 2, 2020 – Better late than never. Birdman’s Clambake will be celebrating the release of a new collection of originals called Build a Bridge recorded in 2004 on Friday, December 18, 2020, beginning at 9 p.m. at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135). The evening will be kicked off by an opening set of music by special guest Alexa Lash and feature several of the dozen songs from the new album played live. No cover, 21 and over welcome, facial coverings are required. CD copies of the new album will be available for purchase at $10 and just in time for the holidays.

“I am excited and absolutely relieved to finally be putting out this ‘new’ collection of 12 songs,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Sean Gould, who is also known as the Birdman and serves as the Nancy’s house audio engineer. “It was quite an experience to record them with Brendan Buckley (drums / production / mixing) and Fernando Perdomo (bass), and for me, if there is a silver lining to this pandemic, it’s that these songs will finally see the light of day.” The Nancy will cap attendance at 50% capacity and strictly enforce mask-wearing and social distancing rules as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The old/new set picks up where the band’s previous release Shooting Star (2001) left off: a heavy dose of hard rock and blues, buoyed by optimism and a palpable sense of humor. From the sunny disposition of “Beautiful Day”, to the blues-based kitsch of “Swamp Thing”, the pleasant sonic oddity that is “Egypt (Calling)”, and the tender finality of “I’ll Be OK”, the album shines with great song writing and even better performances. Stand outs also include “Angel I Can Trust” and the nod to country music heavyweight Johnny Cash called “Nashville”.

Buckley is a noted session player, recording and touring with the likes of Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Lauren Hill, DMX, David Bisbal, Nil Lara, Fulano de Tal, and the Spam Allstars. However, being the live drummer for Shakira has kept him on the road for most of the last two decades, which might help explain why the project was held up for so long. “Due to COVID-19, he was off the road and had time to mix the CD,” says Gould. Brendan is a University of Miami graduate and veteran of the Miami music scene, which is how he and the Birdman originally crossed paths.

L.A. based singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Perdomo is also a Miami music scene veteran, which is also how he met Gould. He is a member of Jakob Dylan’s touring band and was recently featured in the hit music documentary Echo in the Canyon. Fernando owns and operates the Reseda Ranch recording studio and has just released an instrumental reggae version of “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” with legendary drummer Carmine Appice. More songs by the duo are in the offing.

Recorded at Birdman’s notorious Little River area warehouse / studio, the album features backing vocals by Alana and Nicole Chirino, Maryel Epps, and Elsten Torres (Fulano de Tal).

Clambake features virtuoso guitar playing by Sean, backed by the powerful rhythm section made up of Monchy Coruguedo on drums and Michael Mut on bass and vocals. The band’s repertoire varies from show to show and includes a fair amount of improvisations, but never strays too far from the blues and classics from the 50s, 60s and 70s. They will be joined by the singer / songwriter Lash on a few numbers.

Bar Nancy first opened in Little Havana in 2017. The bar’s theme is colonial-era nautical, and its main bar mimics the galley of the famous namesake ship. A daily happy hour offers half-priced drinks 4 to 7 p.m. The bar offers a sizable selection of draft and canned beers, as well as specialty cocktails and gourmet grilled cheese by the food vendor The Cheese Stands Alone. An outside patio offers ample seating and a smoking area.

Pop Up Girl’s monthly event offers wide variety of local vendors hawking jewelry, soaps, candles, vegan delights and more; Nancy to offer cocktails, bites, cash prize for best costume

Miami, FL – October 9, 2019 – Arroz Con Mango literally translates to rice with mango. Its Cuban colloquial meaning is a sticky, messy situation. The monthly marketplace that has been happening at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, 33135) for the last six months is only partially sticky. Mostly a well-oiled operation that offers the chance to shop some local wares, attendees can also listen to live music, sip on some of Little Havana’s craftiest cocktails, and chow on some delectable eats. This month, the party will be Halloween themed, and again be free and feature Birdman’s Clambake.

“Arroz Con Mango was conceived as a tribute to my Cuban/Mexican background,” says event founder Francis Weiner. “Miami is a melting pot, and as a result is un arroz con mango. I have always had a deep connection with my culture, music, and the arts, and I am an immense supporter of local vendors. ACM was my opportunity to bring something to the community where I could bring people together from different backgrounds to merge and enjoy themselves through art and music, all while supporting Miami locals.”

“Clamstavaganza” at Bar Nancy Celebrates 25 Years of Birdman’s Clambake

FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE

Past members of band best known for track “Oye Mamacita” will join current lineup for career-spanning jam on October 12 beginning at 10 p.m.

Miami, FL – September 26, 2019 – South Carolina native Sean “Birdman” Gould has been a Miami music-maker, guitarist / bassist for hire, sound engineer, and bandleader for the better part of three decades now. His band Birdman’s Clambake, which has evolved through several lineup changes, has remained a South Florida mainstay for nearly as long. On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the group will celebrate its silver anniversary at Bar Nancy in Little Havana, beginning at 10 p.m. The rock and blues trio will be joined by some very special guests. The Nancy is located at 2007 SW 8th St, Miami, Florida 33135. There is no cover to attend; 21 and over are welcome.

“Most people have wives and or kids and celebrate their 25th anniversary,” says Gould, who is also Bar Nancy’s lead sound engineer. “I don’t have either of those; all I have is my music and my band. It has been a fun ride to provide a live music soundtrack for so many people and musicians in Miami.” Sean plays bass in the Nil Lara trio and is an in-demand reggae session guitarist. He also records music at his Mango Tree home studio in North Miami.

For the uninitiated, Clambake features virtuoso guitar playing backed by a powerful rhythm section. They serve up a mix of blues with classic rock and a side of kitsch. The band’s repertoire varies from show to show, includes a fair amount of improvisations, and ranges from 50s staples to classics from the 60s and 70s. They also feature a good number of originals, including the 2000 ode to the ladies of Hialeah “Oye Mamacita”, and “Beer, Biscuits and Gravy“, for which a video was filmed at the now-closed Tobacco Road’s upstairs cabaret.

Monchy Coruguedo, the band’s steady drummer for the last 12+ years, offers: “The band that truly is the ‘Clan of The Clam’ is truly the best party band. It’s also a band that takes the music seriously, but not itself. We always welcome fans to share an experience, not just to watch a gig, all under the captaincy of our fearless and non-feathered Bird.” The band also features Michael Mut on bass.

The vibe of the Nancy is colonial-era nautical, its insides mimicking the galley of the famous ship. A daily happy hour offers half-priced drinks 4 to 7 p.m. The bar offers a sizable selection of draft and canned beers, as well as specialty cocktails and classic bar eats.

Clambake serves as the house band for a monthly “Jam with the Clam” open-mic style night hosted by Gould. Mondays are game and trivia nights; each month the bar resurrects the popular South Beach and Grove haunt The Kitchen Club. An outside patio with seating is available.

The Nancy is also home to the monthly marketplace / music event called Arroz Con Mango, and a recurring songwriter’s night series hosted by Juan Turros.

Jim and John Camacho of The Goods to Release New Music, Celebrate at Bar Nancy April 19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Double A-side “Marshmallow” / “Vera” by the Camacho Brothers to be issued on Record Store Day 2019

Miami, FL – March 19, 2019 – The Camacho Brothers, Jim and John, co-founders of the 1990s major-label garage rock / power pop group The Goods, will celebrate the release of their new self-titled 7” on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Bar Nancy in Little Havana (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL 33135). The record will feature the two releasing new music together for the first time since their previous group’s disbanding in 1999. The show is free and open to those 21 and over; music begins at 9 p.m.

“I’m extremely proud of the new music that John and I have created, and I am very excited to share it and the stage with him once again,” offers Jim. “Also, being that it is ‘Goods’ Friday, don’t be surprised to see some old friends join us.” Jim, who sang lead and played bass for The Goods, has continued his career in music as a solo artist, releasing multiple albums, singles, collections, box sets, and videos, earning several notable awards along the way.

Jim has written music for film and TV, as well as other recording artists, some who have enjoyed multi-platinum success. Jim also writes for musical theater, those works include: Mouse King, which has become a South Florida holiday tradition; The Cavie Islander and the Troll; and the Guru of Gir, which will enjoy a performance at the Mandelstam Theater in South Miami on Thursday, March 21.

“This originally started as an anniversary album commemorating the first recording Jim and I ever did, an EP cassette entitled Jim & John Camacho and Their Band of Local Heroes, but we missed the deadline, so it became a full-length,” shares John. “I am super happy about that, as I think it’s some of the best music Jim and I have written.” John played keys and was lead vocalist in the Goods, and went on to form the bands Mongo, MHC and Depot Street, the latter of which is currently having critical and commercial success across the Southeastern US.

In 2014, John was one of 14 pianists worldwide to participate in the Dublin International Piano Festival. He is an established poet, with publications in numerous literary magazines throughout North America and Europe.

“Marshmallow” recaptures the sunny, intelligent, and piano-driven music the siblings were previously known for creating. The mid-tempo rocker is resplendent with shiny vocal harmonies, and is pure pop bliss sung by Jim. “Vera” strays to the reggae end of the spectrum, with John assuming lead vocal duties. Muscular and groovy, the song also features a very tasteful horn arrangement, and lyrics that celebrate one of the South Florida music scene’s best known and loved music fans.

They assembled an A-list cast of musicians to perform on the new disc, including: Roger Houdaille (Ex Norwegian), Fernando Perdomo, Izo Besares (Humbert / I Don’t Know), Tony Oms (The Goods), Juan Davila, Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident / EOTO), Steph Taylor (The State Of), Tim Hamilton, and Zach McRary (Electric Jelly Funk).

The new release was recorded at the Shack North Studios and Ark South Studios by Ferny Coipel and Jasper Cunningham; the horn parts were captured by Caleb Louie at RFG Studio. The songs were mixed by Leo Partipillo at PMB Studio; mastered and lacquer created by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.

An all-star band of local heroes is set to perform the songs, as well as other new Camacho Brothers material, and material from each brother’s solo career. A special media preview is available here.

ABOUT CORTADITO

Cortadito’s focus is on performing the traditional Cuban music of the early 20th century. From Son MontunoGuarachaBolerosNengon, and Bolero Son, this dynamic ensemble brings the listener back to a time when Trio Matamoros, or Ignacio Piniero ruled the Cuban music world. The era when popular music was Cuban Music and Son Montuno was influencing music throughout the globe. From time to time, Cortadito is backed by a variety of guest musicians, which gives the group a sound reminiscent of the Buena Vista Social Club.

Jose Elias founded the band alongside Julio Cesar Rodriguez Delet from Santiago de Cuba in November of 2011 after a 12-year stint with Conjunto Progreso that garnered him a Grammy nomination for his participation in the album Masters of Cuban Son. The duo was an instant success and were invited to perform at the Fingerlakes Grassroots festival in Trumansberg, NY. They released their first CD titled Abriendo Caminos in 2012, which featured one original composition by each of the artists “Delicias Caribeña” (Elias) and “Te Lo Perdiste” (Delet).

In 2013, Julio Cesar moved to Houston, Texas and was replaced by Humberto Upierre from Guanabacoa, Cuba. The group then expanded into a trio which included percussionist Andres Polanco Rivas from Holguin, Cuba. In 2015, the group reunited with Julio Cesar to record what would be the songs for their next release, which included the participation of double bass player YorgisGoiricelaya (AlbitaOscar De Leon) from Matanzas, Cuba.

From 2015 to 2017 the group added various musicians to the roster, including the likes Eduardo Saborit on vocals and rhythm guitar from Santiago de Cuba, percussionist Santiago McCookWilfredo Fuentes Cespedes who recorded and toured with Eliades Ochoa, and Horacio Rodriguez, who worked with Orquesta Aragon from 2000 to 2016. Most recently, the group has added double bass player Alberto Pantaleon, who has toured with the Buena Vista Social Club and Eliades Ochoa.
