2nd Annual Guanabanas Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash Set for July 30

Eight acts scheduled for all-day celebration of the music the Grateful Dead and its legendary leader

Jupiter, FL – July 5, 2017 – Millions of Grateful Dead fans probably agree with what Bob Dylan once said of Jerry Garcia: “he really had no equal”. The hundreds that showed up and enjoyed Guanabanas Island Restaurant’s tribute to the man in 2016 likely do as well.

This sentiment carries on once again this year, as the 2nd Annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash will happen Sunday, July 30 at the Jupiter waterfront restaurant and live music venue located at 960 N Highway A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477.  There will be eight bands: headliners The Heavy Pets along with Unlimited Devotion, Electric Kif, Guavatron, The Southern Belles, Uproot Hootenany, Reflections (A Tribute to Jerry Garcia), and Girl Jerry. The music begins at noon, there is no cover, and the show is all-ages.

The event is sponsored by Bells Brewery will feature great beers from the Bells lineup and a Bells tasting tent featuring unique beers from the brewery. Typical to most Dead shows, the Guanabanas stoned path walkways will host vendors selling artist merchandise and all things artfully Dead.

“The response to our Jerry event last year was overwhelmingly positive and we are excited to be celebrating Garcia and the Dead once again this year,” says Guanabanas talent buyer Matt Cahur. “We are bringing back several of the artists from last year’s event and have added some incredible new artists to the lineup this year. We’re really looking forward to continuing our new musical tradition in 2017 and beyond.”

The Heavy Pets mix funk and rock with a heavy dose of improvisation, bringing their seasoned, road-tested sound back to Guanabanas with an all-Dead set they are calling “Heavy Dead”. They have played more than 1,200 shows throughout the States since forming in 2005, and are getting ready to release their fourth full-length album this year. Learn more at www.theheavypets.com.

Unlimited Devotion, the first of five acts to be invited back to Guanabanas’ Jerry bash, is based in Delray Beach, but is not a traditional Grateful Dead tribute band. They don’t emulate the band’s song book as much as interpret it, expressing themselves through jazz and funk improv. As a band, they enjoy rainbow-making, painting smiley faces, jamming and staying away from Facebook drama. More info: www.facebook.com/UDMusic.

Miami’s Electric Kif is a tight four-piece “post-nuclear” jazz / rock / fusion touring band. They originally started out as a jam band for sidemen and session musicians to perform together, but over time began to develop a sound of their own. They released a third full-length of original material called Heist in 2017, and are now on the road promoting it, playing up and down the East Coast of the U.S. Learn more on the web at www.electrickif.com.

Guavatron is a fusion five-piece based in West Palm Beach that emphasizes fusing genres together with seamless transitions and evolving improvisation into a well-travelled, infectious and original sound. A veteran act of the first annual event at Guanabanas, they list the Grateful Dead as their primary influence. More details are available at guavatron.bandcamp.com.

The Southern Belles hail from Richmond, VA and since 2011 has been playing a high-octane mix of Southern psychedelic rock and roll. They crisscross the country, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals each year. They are still promoting their latest release, Close to Sunrise (2015) extensively throughout the U.S., and also were a part of the Jerry jam at Guanabanas in 2016. Featuring former members of the group Crazy Fingers, Reflections is a Jerry Garcia tribute band whose focus is on the man’s music outside of the Grateful Dead.
